Well, I'm running out a shelf space, so slowly all the non-graded Topps cards are leaving the office display and returning to their binders (I don't feel like breaking people out of their grading prisons). So now I have a 1922 American Caramel that has to go into the display and I need to figure out who leaves. It's getting tough. So I seek your opinions, which I'll probably ignore, but will amuse me, regardless. Just so you have a feel for things, the last card to get demoted was a 1970 Hank Aaron. Here are the candidates for "demotion."
1983 Ryne Sandberg rookie card. My all-time favorite player. But the newest card in that display by over a decade.
1962 Lou Brock rookie card. My former favorite player and the first expensive baseball card I ever bought.
1967 Ernie Banks. The Cubs are my team. Tough to dump Mr. Cub. And that smile....
1968 Willie Mays. My oldest Mays, a present from an old boss of mine.
1961 Mickey Mantle. My oldest of two Mantles. And it's Mickey Mantle.
1951 Yogi Berra. It's Yogi Berra.
I will not offer my own leanings at this time. Make your arguments!
Keep in mind, all the last Topps cards of every Hall of Famer who has a Topps card are still on display. So all of these players do have another card on display elsewhere in the house, albeit a newer one.
Cheers.
