Thinking outside the box but inside the One Touch Magnetic Card Holder. Put two cards back-to-back in a thick (55 pt) one-touch case (or thick toploader). You can flip it around every now and then.

Someday my cards may double in value and then be worth half of what I paid for them.

Visualizing this in my head, it seems the Sandberg would stick out like a sore thumb. Much newer than the next oldest. Remove that one. Yadier Molina is my all time favorite, but I wouldn't put his RC on a vintage display.

I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff. Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.

Sigh. Y'all are right. the 1983 Sandberg must go. Then Mantle. Then Mays. But those two have a bit of time, probably until the end of the year.
Thanks to all who pretended to care.

V3, you really thought you could ask this group for an opinion and not get a response?!

That's kind of why I need to limit myself a bit, Billy. Yes, my daugther and I have made three displays that dominate the wall in the rec room. No room on any of those. In fact, I probably have to add shelves to my gigantic display of last Topps card of every Hall of Famer who has a Topps card, because I only have two spots left and I figure at least that many more will be voted in within four months.
And the shelf I'm talking about already oozes onto the neighboring shelf to accommodate a few bobbleheads, a Wrigley Field snow globe, a brass Frank Robinson, and an empty box of Rizzo's cereal. I'll consider expanding when all the non-graded Topps cards have left the shelf. The People were right: the 1983 Sandberg just didn't belong. I have 170 (!) cards on display in the house! I'm at peace with Sandberg's rookie going to the binder.
Be well.

Maybe Billy is on to something. I know you don't want another shelf, but maybe you could get a slightly LARGER shelf. That way you could display a few more cards and even if you have none to display when the time comes you don't have to make another tough decision like this.
It seems Sandberg won(lost) the voting, but I would have removed the Berra card. Sandberg may have been the newest card, but it also seems like it means a lot as well. That or the Banks card since if Sandberg was kept, you would still have a Cubs card on display. Then again I could see pros and cons for all the cards. Maybe that's why I don't have any on display despite making one or two shelves in the past to display them on. I would change them out too often.

My Sandberg RC isn't on display either. It's in a one-touch in a box with some other really good cards, like my Musial vintage cards and my Henderson and Mattingly RC's. I'm not a Cubs fan, but I am a Ryno fan (even as a life-long Cardinals fan). My only STL RC's on display are my Ozzie RC and my Molina AU RC. All of my displayed baseball cards are of those 2 players.

You guys are cute, those of you who keep saying things like "at least the Cubs will still be represented." Of the 34 cards on that shelf, 18 are Cubs. Sandberg was replaced by a Cub, albeit one that played for them in 1922.
And I think it's fun to change them out every now and then.
And, actually, the Berra is in serious jeopardy of being next, but I'm leaning toward Mantle.
And OF COURSE I expected responses.
Thanks for playing everyone.

I like the outside the box thinking of Billy and C2Cigars. However, my first thought was how much fading will be caused by long time display of the cards? I especially notice it on some autographed cards for the auto, I'm assuming its from being displayed, but maybe I'm wrong.
