I reckon y'all saw that someone paid nearly $4 million for the 2009 Bowman Chrome Draft Prospects Superfractor Mike Trout 1/1. The guy who sold it paid $400,000 for it two years ago. I'm guessing he won't mind paying the capital gains tax on that.
Now don't go out there and buy up all the 1/1 cards of different players thinking you'll get that kind of return!

I don't know the guy who was selling it, but a lot of replies weren't too kind to him some saying he'll be in jail in a couple years? What's the story on that, anybody know?
He seems to have a lot of detractors but he also seems to be a little pompous from some of his tweets, so I'm not sure if people just don't like him, or he might be shady.

If I have anything in my collection, (or my entire collection), that someone would be willing to pay me $4,000,000.00 (or even $1,000,000.00), please contact me as soon as possible!

That is a lot of money for a baseball card. If I had that amount of money I rather buy a house.

A 1/1 is not a baseball card.....it's a gimmick.

I just sold a freshly-pulled Luis Robert rookie for...a couple hundred bucks or so, which my spouse found at least mildly impressive. So...I won't be mentioning this...
In all seriousness, this kind of headline on a mainstream news outlet--though a ridiculous sum--is probably net positive for the hobby.

Net positive, possibly, but not for the hobby I participate in.

I beg to differ on this one. I think it is HORRIBLE for the hobby.....
Cards can be tough to get in some areas of the country, and Walmart / Target exclusives nearly impossible. Now because of this ( price for the card), someone who has NO INTEREST in collecting, goes into a store and buys everything.
The sole intent of said person is to hope to get a big hit and make a bunch of money, or to flip those boxes to someone willing to take a chance. An honest collector or even a kid has no shot at getting his/her hands on cards. If people can not find cards, they find other interest which leads to less true collectors, which in my opinion is not good.
Long term I think this is bad for the hobby.

Just highlights the problem with 1/1 cards. It's not real collecting for me.
As a soccer fan I don't think any of those cards will be anywhere near the top of the most expensive list.
