Greetings Fellow TCDb'ers,

First I would like to thank you for creating a sense of community, the welcoming atmosphere, and the support I have received since joining a few months ago. As I am entering more of my non-Phillies (trade bait, as my son calls it) I am receiving and increasing number of proposals (which I truly appreciate). 

One problem I am having, I, on three occasions now, have found that a trade that I have accepted involves a card that was accepted in a concurrent trade. Can anyone provide some insight in safe guards they may use to prevent this from occurring? Buying cards from Sportslots to send people is my default way to reconcile my shortfall, but I would like to "tighten up" my process. Do you only process one trade at at time, pull all cards before accepting or some other means? 

Or is this a common problem that is considered part of the process, and collectors just reconcile by accepting other cards? In the last two that I discovered this morning for an example, I have offered for the two individuals to either pick out other cards, or have the original card mailed from a third-party.

I've ran into this a couple times...What I have seen happen is that I will get more than one offer that will include the same card.  I haven't had too many HUGE trades, usually 20 or less cards, so I try to check any following offers after I accept one.  One you Accept an offer it will move those cards to a gray "In transaction".  Then you can see.  I have had to have offers countered and redone after trading away some that we in previous offers.  

Big thing.....try not to accept too many offers at the same time...that's when you can get a bit of overflow from one trade to the next.  You may even end up with cards you already have coming and get doubles then......I've done that too !!

This is coming from someone who loves to trade and always has multiple trades going at once. These are a couple of basics that help me, and these are assuming you have only one of any card to offer:

1. NEVER include the same card in multiple transactions, whether as an "Offer" to you or as a "Proposal" by you.
2. ALWAYS compare "Offers" and "Proposals" before accepting or sending
3. NEVER trust that what TCDB shows is accurate. This may be due to various factors; incorrect input by you, a previous trade that wasn't closed appropriately (Package Sent, Package Received, Transaction Closed by both partners) - though this should show those cards in either "In-Transaction" or "In-Transit", or a trade offer or proposal may have been started when a card WAS available, but was held in the "Composing" stage long enough to have allowed the card to be traded and the system doesn't reflect those changes in ownership

This should help tremendously. I've had only one such incident happen in my 80+ trades this year, and that was because I had assumed I had it (I did, but it was misfiled) and didn't confirm before accepting the offer. I've had over 600 trades here and this is what I now do to prevent what you're describing - and I ALWAYS have more than just a couple of deals going on.

Joshua   said it all except commination with the trader when some thing comes up.  Most of us will understand.

No need to rush any transaction but do need to commuate with the other trader.

good rule of thumb i follow is to pull the cards before accepting an offer, this way if there is a problem its much easier to fix then instead of later trying to scramble to find replacement cards...

I once had two people request the same card within an hour of each other. Luckily I had another copy in my box of yet to be entered cards.

It hasn't happened to me all that often in my 101 previous completed trades but if I do get multiple proposals for the same card, I'll choose the transaction that came in first and then try to find something suitable to counter with for the second trade. It's usually an easy transition as everyone here that I've dealt with has been completely understanding and easy going about it.

I always pull the cards before I accept a trade and I pull them before proposing a trade. And if a mistake is made communication is key. I think 99% of the traders on here are pretty easy going as long as you’re up front. Most people will be happy with a substitute form your trade list so you can avoid having to buy a replacement card. 

I haven't had any issues from my side but I do follow some of what was said above.

My trades are almost always small PWE trades. I probably do this more because I don't want to get over loaded pulling a ton of cards.

I generally now try to do one trade at a time. Again, this probably reduces the chances of getting dual offers for a card but for me I want the trading to be enjoyable and if I get too many trades going at once It feels too much like work instead of fun.

I usually will also pull cards before accepting and if I am proposing I usually include a note that says if this trade works for you please let me know and allow me to pull cards before anything is sent. That way if I am missing a card we can modify the trade before anything is sent.
