Funny, I brought up my concerns over the appearance of validity for the site a few months back and they were largely pushed to the side in favor of the "if they don't like it, they can go away" mentality.
That said, I'm going to throw an idea out there. Maybe, just maybe, if you have an issue, send a message to the person who is in charge of this site and bring it to their attention directly. Even better, put together a solution! Very few members here push against what Admin decides when it's said and done.
Think guidelines need to be clearer? Make a list of what you think should be here and what shouldn't, and send it to Admin. Have a problem with what's listed here, and don't think it should be? Tell Admin. If you can't be patient enough to wait for a response from a person who, ya know, has a life outside of this site, I don't know what to tell you.
Don't like the answer? Find an alternative. Your own site. Your own spreadsheet. Your own whatever fits your needs.
No one agrees with 100% of the things that go on here, 100% of the time. Black and white doesn't exist at all times - there's a lot of gray where flexibility has to come into play. If you can't live like that, I've got really bad news for you about life outside this site too. But we aren't a bunch of fifth graders. I don't think that really needs to be said.
As far as my personal opinion, since no one asked: homemade cards with licensing issues shouldn't be listed here. Had I realized that the Helmar Brewing cards were what they are, I wouldn't have uploaded the one checklist I did. There's no way we should be recognizing the work of counterfeiters, forgers, or anyone else who's out to make a quick buck in a dishonest way. But hey, that's just me. I've said my piece and tried to keep it as civil as I can.
I'll never quit collecting entirely, but I am downsizing. Check out my COMC store and help me thin out what I don't want so I can buy cards that I do want. See something you like? Send me a message on here, and we can knock the price down quite a bit. I'll even take a bit of a loss if it means getting you a card you really want.
