I'm going to clean up my lists here in the next week or so. There are a few cards (my PC) I would like to have prices on. May do more then just them.
I got some low numbered cards at a real good price. Do I put that price in or what I have seen sold at other sites. (E-bay/COMC) The range goes from 25.00 to 12.00 and I picked it up for 4.00.

I always put the price I paid, not what someone else paid.

Someday my cards may double in value and then be worth half of what I paid for them.

I also put the price I paid though when buying in a lot, difficult to do.

OK Some may be a little higher as I paid more then I should have for some of the cards. Some will be cheap.

There isn't a great answer and I'm for anything that is just more acurate than the current pricing. I try to go in and enter some more current pricing on cards in my collection here and there in hopes that some day the pricing will start to be more representative. I just updated a few today from collection. Early 90s upper deck cards that you can hardly give away and some had pricing at a buck or two! It's crazy but I feel if members ever hope for pricing to carry any meaning we should all spend a little time updating some of the pricing when we can.

As long as the system doesn't require confirmation, and relies solely on self-policing then prices will tend to be skewed.
I believe there is a built-in incentive for adding pricing to the site in the form of points, but some elder statesmen will have to confirm that.

I know there is an amount of inaccurate pricing on the site and some of this won't change overnight. However, I also think this site is set up to be able to provide accurate information over time - just takes larger amounts of data. Ok, that is my theory and I really have not scientific stats to back that up, but... If everyone enters in pricing they actually paid for a card, that data over multiple entries will eventually reflect more accurate pricing.
At somepoint will someone enter/pay $1.00 for 1990 Donruss base card (who knows maybe they needed to complete the set and that Mike LaValliere card was at the right place/right time!)? Yes, I am sure that is going to happen but this great site also gives the option to click on the price and see the history of prices entered and when. I can look at that detail and if overtime 8 entries show a price around .05 and one shows as a $1.00, I can make an inference that $1 entry isn't likely the most accurate. As it stands now (this is my theory again!), a portion of the cards on the site now are only showing that one off pricing or pricing entered based on what was seen as asking price vs. a more collective what folks have actually paid pricing which would be shown with more data.
Also agreed, sometimes if you buy in a bulk lot pricing it could be difficult. I have entered any pricing on those types of transactions as of yet as not sure that would be reflective of individual card pricing.
I'm thinking with time and data, the pricing on this site could be a really good reference point.
Though I haven't always entered pricing on cards purchased, as BSwagger mentions I am looking to spend a little time on it when I can and enter the actual pricing paid for the cards.

I used to work on prices and then things changed. Then I saw some of the insane prices people were claiming as value or sell price and I stopped all together (mostly).
BTW, points are not given for adding prices to cards, so no extra incentive to add them (real or false).

My problem with pricing is when I go to a show and the dealer has the card on display for $15. Now say I buy enough cards from him that he gives me a percentage off the whole amount. Did I just pay $15 or did I pay $15 minus the percentage? If someone else had come along and just bought that one card they would not have gotten the bulk percentage off.
Also I have noticed some high end cards with extremly low prices and some low end cards with extremly high prices.

This is from the FAQ:
How do you earn points?
You can earn points by submitting items to the database (images, checklists, videos, trivia, external links, prices, fixes, etc). Points for submitting fixes and prices are awarded at the end of the month.
