That was before my time here and so wasn't privy to that gem.
Absolutely hysterical. Really: thank you for sharing.

Pretty sure I have seen that one tried before — it's hard to think up sales pitches that haven't been tried!

I'd say yes, since I got back into collecting about 10 years ago, I have absolutely noticed more delusional sellers and con artists selling cards online - or at least trying to sell cards online.
I think it's inevitable, because as cards keep getting more expensive, more and more marginal human beings will wade into the pond fishing for suckers. Doesn't make it right, but it does make it inevitable.

It’s almost comical reading about sets that they bought during the junk wax era for 65-80 dollars. Fast forward 30 years and they recently dug those set out of the attic and they want 125-200 for them, when they are actually worth less now, then when they bought them.

I just found another seller on COMC that rejects offers and raises their price.
A card that has been on my watch list it for a couple of years. Priced at $4 to start. He has come down to $2.75 with Min offer $1.75 which is close to what they have sold for. I offered $1.75 to me it is something you find in a $1 box. He rejected it and raised it to $3.75 with a min of $3.50 offer.
He is the 7th or 8th seller there that I have found that does that.

I’ve been seeing it for the past couple years. Just continues to get worse. I don’t know if it’s from a simple lack of effort in doing the research necessary to properly and accurately list and price their cards or if they truly are just delusional and really believe it.

Prolly a bit of both, then you can add in "I overpaid for it", so I expect you to overpay so I can recoup my $$$ (flippers)

I purchase mainly vintage Detroit Tiger cards I have notice about a 30% increase for common cards in the 50"s, 60's and 70's. For not common not common card is more possible in the high 30% to low 40%. For special cards have seen up to 50% for some cards. None of these cards have to because production, people are paying high prices and it is time to quite buying for a while.
I think really if they can get the higher prices then more power to them, but just know long term it will hurt the card business like it did before.

Joelshitshow is somewhat infamous for doing that. From what I have seen, he tend to price low in bulk and then raise the price to a little less than any competing cards if an offer is made. I have learned to just stop offers with him. Either pay the listed price or try to offer one of his competitors. You can still get a good deal without to save the last nickel or dime.
