Is it possible to add a stipulation to submitting prices, such as providing a link or some sort of proof of sale? I don't know if this would work, but it would at least make sure that members are using actual prices paid for the item, rather than inputting their own prices or asking prices on eBay or COMC (which can be extremely outrageous, in my opinion). I don't know if it would also be possible to have said submission approved, much like scans (although perhaps don't let a member approve their own).
Spitballing ideas here. Not sure if it's even feasible, given I don't know how many prices are submitted on a daily basis.

I'll never quit collecting entirely, but I am downsizing. Check out my COMC store and help me thin out what I don't want so I can buy cards that I do want. See something you like? Send me a message on here, and we can knock the price down quite a bit. I'll even take a bit of a loss if it means getting you a card you really want.

Unfortunately, that idea torpedoes anyone who buys a card at a LCS (not that there are a lot of those anymore, but, they do exist).
The only idea I have to improve on our current process is to maybe disallow a single user to input more than one price per card per 24 hour period. That would make it more difficult to defeat the "median" system currently in place.

Fair. My first thought for that was using a receipt, but then again, I can't remember the last time I got an itemized receipt from an LCS. I do like the idea of a time period restriction. Ultimately I don't really use the prices on this site (I don't really use pricing at all, as I'm very reluctant to pay more than $10-$15 for a single card usually) but the fact that a) we have members who do and b) inflated and ridiculous prices can cause our site to lose credibility makes me feel that we should have some sort of restriction or reasonable guidelines for price submission.

That one actually sold as "Best Offer Accepted" not the asking price. It's the 10th listing on the completed auction page. That is why I ONLY use a completed auction search.
Looks like it actually sold for $320 according to Watchcount.

I use the pricing to give me an idea of value, but I also check the other online card stores and enjoy seeing those which provide a visual of the condition of the card.
I wouldn't want to do away with it, but do see a great need to validate pricing. I mean, I can see that someone will pay more simply because cards are graded. I steer away from it, but that is a reality that someone may need to log.

Would it be possible to limit the prices you can see? Perhaps have an option to show only prices submitted by your friends? It would take some effort but those who use and care about prices could select to only see prices submitted by users they trust
