Yesterday I made my weekly pilgrimmage to one of our local "Dollar Stores" in search of any elusive cards (either needed, wanted, or just for trading) when I overheard the lady ahead of me on line regarding her purchase. Seems she had a "few items" on the counter and when the clerk finished ringing her through i did one of those "double takes" . After peering over her shoulder I was able to determine her purchase of 5 prs. of women's Thermal tights and what appeared to be a 50 pack of "Puppy training pads" the total came to $67.50 ! Which led me then to wonder if there actually were any items that actually cost a "Dollar" any more!.

There are various types of stores in that "genre". I found out that one like Dollar General will have items priced above a dollar, but rounded to the nearest dollar.

Yes some of the "Dollar" stores are actually "up to $10" Stores or near enough. Dollar General, Dallar Family are of that kind like the Commish described.

Long story short in the late 80s to 1992 I worked for a toy store that in late 1992 shifted gears to be a Dollar type store. Their new name reflected the new store model $1, $5, $10 everything was priced at one, five or ten dollars. It was stress from the change that I quit. Eventually if I had stuck around I would have been fired. Some long time employees and even managers wire let go before my day of quitting. The new dollar store only lasted 2 maybe 3 years.

I remember when there were Dime Store now they are Dollar Stores. I guess that shows my age, huh?

You are young as I remeber 5 & 10 cent stores. We have 2 dollar stores in town. One almost even thing is a dollar. The other there is alot of things that are over a dollar. stump417 wrote: I remember when there were Dime Store now they are Dollar Stores. I guess that shows my age, huh?

Canada has a few versions, I think we got three or four here and we only have 30,000 people. I like the one where everything is a $1.25. Bread, christmas decorations, books, socks. It dont matter it is $1.25 plus tax of course. Alot are the $? type where it is just rounded off to a dollar amount. Meh.
