Random Card of the Day

Year: 2008

Set: Topps Moments & Milestones (Rate)

Card: #138-55 Miguel Cabrera

“ In case collecting this one card wasn’t enough, there are another 115 in this set exactly like this one to honor each and every one of his RBIs from 2005. ” -mrackar

“ This set is absolutely crazy. There is a card for each 116 RBIs Miguel Cabrera hit. It is the same picture for each card and only changes if the player signs with another team during the streak. They have cards for each career home run, career saves, career strike outs, etc... ” -yokonashiwa
  5
“ Like Upper Deck Documentary, this set has SO much potential to tell the story of the season through words and photos. Instead they just used generic photos and barely even told the story of the event in question and you were left collecting a bunch of numbers serial numbered out of 150 and wondering why. ” -hiflew

“ Elegant-looking card. ” -Theron_Nett
  2
“ There will no doubt be detractors of this set. I happen to be trying to complete it, along with its previous year’s counterpart. Anyone else out there crazy enough to do the same? ” -Dave Sosidka
  2
“ Cards like these are a Miguel Cabrera player collector's worst nightmare. ” -myrke
  4
“ This set is the definition of unnecessary and repetitive. ” -philliesphan
  6
“ What an underwhelming insert card. ” -Matt9975
  2
“ Horrible, horrible set. Holy cats, why Topps, why?? ” -cjjt
  2
“ It feels like a lifetime ago when you could describe Miggy as both a "Marlin" and an "outfielder." ” -MichelHollaback
  3
“ Like this if you sometimes forget Miggy played for the Marlins. ” -jdogg1228
  2
“ Oh boy, a card from a set that has 12,000 cards in it with a few hundred cards that are exactly the same for a few dozen players. ” -captkirk42
  3
“ These kind of cards are the most obnoxious sort of parallel in the entire kingdom of obnoxious parallels. I'm grateful that they're dead right now, or at least sleeping. Shhh. ” -ray fosse's ghost

Both this set and a couple of the parallels have to be among the top point farming sets on this site...

The year 2008 was either a nightmare or the best year for set builders. Over 20k cards between Moments and Milestones, YSL, and Documentary. And that is just the base sets.

I like the novelty of this set. Seems like I'm an outlier:)

I'm mostly organizing over adding right now.

I collected Sosa's 66 HR Topps set. I can't imagine collecting 116 of basically the same card. Getting my mail was like groundhogs day.

I've got some of these on COMC and besides Griffey, they're not flying out of there like I thought they might.

I'm continually entering tradeable inventory.  Full want lists are at https://thecollectivemind.blogspot.com/p/baseball-wants.html   Use the green tabs to navigate.

Have entered 1994 thru 2021 baseball and 2009 thru 2020 football so far.  Don't have many newer than 2020 except A&G in baseball, and very little beyond 2019 in football.  My extra hockey is older than that.

The best I have for a tradelist otherwise is https://thecollectivemind.blogspot.com/search/label/Disperse%20the%20Hoard

Hey Dave Sosidka right here.

I am also thinking of collecting both the 2007 and 2008 sets.

I finished the Documentary set and I'm 90% complete with Moments and Milestones.   It's really hard to put a big dent in the Yankee Stadium Legacy set because someone on eBay buys every lot that pops up.  I'm probably 65% done with that one.

Glad this trend died- giant sets with hundreds of virtually identical cards. Also see Yankee Stadium Legacy, Mantle Home Run History, A. Rod Road to 500, Bonds Home Run History...
