Trivia |
- Traded (or Update) sets have been issued by Topps for every year since 1981--with the exception of 1996-1998. Much smaller Traded sets were issued in 1976 and 1974. The 1972 Topps sets contained a Traded subset. The 1969 and 1951 Topps sets each contained two variation cards that could also be considered Traded sets. The 1981 TT set made it an official standard.
- Unlike every Topps Traded/Update set made ever since, the 1981 set was numbered as an extension of the Topps base set from 727-858. In each year afterward, Topps Traded/Update sets would be numbered starting from 1 and followed by a letter "T" or "U".
- Regardless of the numbering system, Topps would number the cards in alphabetical order by player's last name.
- This was the only Topps Traded Set where the cards looked exactly like the base set. Same card stock, same backs etc. In 1982, although they used the #1T to #132T numbering system, the cards were printed on the same stock, but had different color backs (Base Set: Green, Traded Set: Red). From 1983-1991, the traded sets were issued on white card stock to further differentiate them from the base sets. Starting in 1992, white card stock was used for the base sets.

It's hard to ignore this set as part of the 1981 Topps collection because of the continuation of numbering from #727-858. Your sets are not complete without the Topps Traded/Update sets. Don't panic. Get the sets. | ||
