My personal policy is not to list cards on my for sale/trade list that aren't in good enough condition that I wouldn't want to receive them in trade. For me, this is at least "Excellent-Near Mint" condition for commons from between 1985 and 2000, at least "Excellent" condition for commons from before 1985, and at least "Near Mint" condition for anything else. If any of my cards are below these standards, I will let you know, and I expect anyone trading with me to do the same.

To me, "Excellent-Near Mint" means no immediately noticeable flaws; the centering might be off, you might look closely and find some softening of a corner or two, but at least at first glance, it doesn't really stand out from a card that might have just been pulled from a pack. No creases, no staining. This would probably be within what most people would simply call "Near Mint." 

Variations matter.
