The "Top of Topps Football" Wall of Fameby cnangle - 59 cards (Last updated on Mar 11, 2019) |
On display is a card from my collection that I think best represents the set. For most years, that's the key rookie card. For the years I don't have the key rookie, it's probably a HOF Vikings player. However, there are a couple years where a card has some special interest to me, '77 Walter Payton for instance.
I'm sure I will end up changing some of these out as I continue to complete sets, at least I hope so.
21. 1977 Topps #360 Walter Payton
This is probably my favorite Topps card design. This card has all the elements. The All-Pro banner, "1,000 Yarder" logo, and a great photo. The best card of the 70's era.

22. 1978 Topps #315 Tony Dorsett
I've come to appreciate this set in recent years. It was my least favorite set for a long time. It seems uninspired. The Dorsett card is a good example of that fact. Great player, but this card is not his best. |
23. 1979 Topps #390 Earl Campbell
I remember getting this card in a pack. He was exciting to watch that year. |
24. 1980 Topps #225 Phil Simms
Not a HOFer, but this set is lacking in rookie power. I was able to buy a full box of this set a couple years ago. It was fun opening packs and my collection consists of mostly "pack-fresh" cards. |
25. 1981 Topps #216 Joe Montana
This is the obvious card to display from this set. It's not my favorite card from this set, that honor goes to #202 Walter Payton "Super Action". I loved that card as a kid. |
26. 1982 Topps #434 Lawrence Taylor
Helmet logos are back! I wonder if the guy who airbrushed helmets lost his job? Taylor is a solid choice for this year. Ronnie Lott and Anthony Munoz are the two other HOFers with RC's this year. Either one of them would display well too. |
27. 1983 Topps #294 Marcus Allen
This is a pretty solid set as far as design goes. Like the '80 and '82 sets, it does like in rookie power though. |
28. 1984 Topps #123 Dan Marino
I chose to display the Marino...well...because I like him better than Elway. |
29. 1985 Topps #238 John Elway
Since I don't have the Moon rookie, I decided to give the spot to Elway. |
30. 1986 Topps #374 Steve Young
This spot belongs to Jerry Rice...but sadly, I don't have one. It could also go to Reggie White, Andre Reed, or Bruce Smith. Since Young would be the guy throwing to Rice, I figured I'll let him hold the spot until I'm able to acquire a Rice card. |
