My Top 10 Favorite George Brett 1970s Cards (That I Own)by midbellman - 10 cards (Last updated on Dec 13, 2014) |
10. 1975 Topps Mini #228 George Brett
This is one of my scans. You might say after looking at this list that I am a little biased to the Rookie cards, but the 1975 Topps set is just cool. Such a simple front and the back was very informative. My set of a regular rookie cards wasn't complete until I got the mini. |
9. 1976 SSPC #589 George Brett / Al Cowens
I actual got this card in a lot of, I believe, 10 of these cards. I sold most of them, but kept 2. I'm sure Al Cowens is forever happy that his name is misspelled on this card. George has a face here only a mother could love. |
8. 1979 Kellogg's 3-D Super Stars #50 George Brett
This is another one of my scans. I am not particularly a fan of the Kellogg’s cards, but if you want to have a collection, they need to be here. This is just a goofy picture of George. He looks like he just came from the dentist. |
7. 1978 SSPC 270 #217 George Brett
Another one of my scans. I actually have the entire set of this series of cards. I might do a top ten of complete Royals team sets that I own. We'll see. Not sure what is up with the collar. |
6. 1977 O-Pee-Chee #170 George Brett
Many of the Non-Topps scans of George Brett 70s cards are from me. In my opinion, I think the OPC cards a way cooler than the regular Topps cards. For me it is the white card stock. I know it sounds cheesy. I like this one over the regular 77 Topps simply because it is different. The 77 Topps has a red strip on the bottom that says "A.L. All-Stars" |
5. 1979 Topps Comics #9 George Brett
I know some of you are saying that this is not a card, but a flimsy piece of paper, a crude drawing, and a funny piece of info; and I think it is one of funniest cards, if you can call it that, that Topps ever put out. I wish Topps would have done more of these. |
4. 1977 Hostess Twinkies #36 George Brett
Again, one of my scans. Surprisingly I didn't know about this card until after I joined tradingcaddb. I stumbled on it by accident. A seller had it listed it as a regular 1977 Hostess card and for some reason I asked to see the back of the card and realized that it was a Twinkie. I wish the back was in a little better condition. |
3. 1975 Topps #228 George Brett
After reading number 10, I am sure you were waiting for this card to show up. This was the first card I bought to jump start my collection George Brett cards again. I actually have 3 of them. One is in horrible condition and one is in a fairly good gradable condition. |
2. 1977 Topps Cloth Stickers #7 George Brett
It was a hard choice between this card and my #1. I love the clothe(sticker) card. I have several of these. Many people don't know this, but there are 2 variations of this card. On the back on the bottom, right before the copyright symbol, is either one or two stars. The pictured one that I uploaded to the site has one, but I have the other variation, too. |
1. 1975 O-Pee-Chee #228 George Brett
This one shouldn't be a surprise. Not only is it a rookie card with the classic green and purple background, not only is it an OPC with the white card stock, not only is half of it in French, but also it is a pretty rare card and I still feel lucky to have it in my collection. Do you agree with my top ten? Let me know your favorite card is from the 70s and it doesn’t have to be limited to George Brett. Also I am thinking of continuing on and doing a 1980-1984 George Brett top ten, but I have a large Bo Jackson collection, too. Which top ten should I do next? |

Nice Brett list. I finally started collecting after 20+ years as well. You have a similar collector story to mine, as I had a small collection of my favorite cards as a youngster stolen too.

I always liked the 1979 Topps and I think it was the 92 Upper Deck card. Lots to choose from. Thanks for the list.

Thanks for commenting. The 79 card always looked odd to me and I recently realized why. It is the Topps logo. It is the first year that they put it on the front at least since 1975 and the logo just looks odd. The 92 hologram Upper deck is pretty cool. Thanks again for commenting.
