My Top 10 Favorite George Brett 1980-1982 Cards (That I Own)

10. 1981 Topps #401 1980 A.L. Championships

It took me a while to find this card, because Tradingcarddb doesn't list this as a George Brett card. I like action shots. Most of Brett's cards are head shots or poses. I know that's how Topps and many of the other card companies did their cards, but I wish they did more in game photo's.

9. 1980 Topps Superstar Photos (White Backs) #14 George Brett

This was the beginning of the big cards era, at least for Brett. Not sure why the made a gray and white back versions. These 5x7 cards always fascinated me, especially the mid-to-late 80s ones. I also like it when card companies to the signatures on the cards.

8. 1981 Fleer Star Stickers #116 George Brett

I was never a huge fan of Donruss and Fleer when I was a kid. I thought that they were never as cool as the Topps. But I started collecting around 1988 when all cards were losing their cool facture. I know some people blame Fleer and Donruss for the downfall of sports cards and there is probably some truth to that. With all that said, I do like this sticker card.

7. 1982 O-Pee-Chee Stickers #133 George Brett

When I first started collecting again, 4 years ago, I refused to get any Topps or OPC mini sticker cards. I felt that they weren't real cards. Since that time I have softened and have collected several of them. Picking which sticker card was my favorite was easy, but choosing whether to display the OPC or the Topps was hard.

6. 1981 Topps Squirt #1 George Brett

One of my favorite colors is green, and it's not because of money. This card stands out big time to me. It's so bright. In a lineup of cards, your eyes go directly to it. I actually have two full different panels of this card. I'm not as fond of the 1982 version or the drink for that matter.

5. 1981 All-Star Game Program Inserts #NNO George Brett

I know what some of you are thinking. This is not a card. I have to have at least one of these "non"cards in each top ten. I think these small inserts are cool. If you haven't learned anything about me in my other top ten lists, I like cards that have a simple design, show action, and are rare. This fit the bill for all 3.

4. 1981 Topps Scratch-Offs #1 George Brett

How do we make collecting cards popular? I know, add a hint of gambling in it. I honestly think the card is ugly, but that’s what makes it stand out to me. I only have the single scratch off card and I know that they originally came in panels. I believe that Brett was on 3 different panels of 3 scratch-off cards. I am actually on the lookout for these panels if there is anyone selling.

3. 1980 Topps Burger King Pitch, Hit & Run #13 George Brett

I do like this 1980 design, but which card to choose, Burger King, OPC, or Topps. Well I have used OPC and Topps, so that means that Burger King won by default. Pepsi also made a version of this design and made proofs, but never went ahead with mass producing them. I have seen a picture of the entire proof set. Topps auctioned it off a couple years ago. If you happen to have one and thinks it doesn’t fit in well with your collection, I’ll be happy to take it off your hands.

2. 1982 O-Pee-Chee #201 George Brett

What did I say earlier? I like simple design, action cards. This 1982 card is a great example. Also being OPC it has the white card stock and it's also written in French. Like I said in my last Brett top ten, I think OPC is cooler than Topps. But that’s just my opinion.

1. 1982 Perma-Graphics All-Star Credit Cards - Gold #9 George Brett

I know what you saying. This card doesn't appear to be a simple design or show any action. How could I like it? Well it does fit my criteria of being rare, but I also like cards that are just different from all other type of cards. If you had a stack of 100 regular stock cards and this credit card style card was inserted in the middle you would know right away what it was. Do you agree with my list? What are your favorite cards from this era? I would love to read comments from other collectors and respond.
