Ron Necciai
No-Hitter: May 13, 1952 (Class-D Appalachian League)

If you have not heard of Ron Necciai, you should read about his story. He is the only pitcher recognized to have struck out 27 batters in a 9-inning, professional-league game. In this game, 4 runners on the opposing team reached base -- on a walk, a hit batsman, an error, and a passed ball -- and one other actually grounded out to first base, but Necciai followed up a passed-ball strikeout in the ninth inning with a fourth strikeout in the inning to reach 27.

Amazingly enough, in his next minor league start, Necciai struck out 24 batters in a 2-hit outing.

Although he did pitch briefly in the major leagues for Pittsburgh, medical issues cut his career short, and he retired at the age of 22.

Incredible story about Necciai. I've never heard of him or the 27 K's in a single game. At first, I was thinking he basically struck out every batter he faced in the game, since 27 K's would mean that. But I didn't think about walks, passed balls and a groundout of all things. That will never happen again in professional baseball.

This is a pretty neat list and you've done a lot of work getting all those AUTOS!
