vrooomed's 10th Anniversary Trivia Contestby vrooomed (Last updated on Jan 23, 2023) |
Answer these questions, the members with the most points will win prizes.
1. There are 16 MLB franchises that were around in 1903 when the current "World Series" format started. Of those 16 teams, which team has made it to the playoffs the least number of times? How many times? (1 point for each answer, 2 points total)
2. There are 14 MLB franchises that have been added since the 1903 season (beginning in 1961). Of those 14 teams, which team has made it to the playoffs the most number of times? How many times? (1 point for each answer, 2 points total)
3. How many different MLB franchises have won the World Series since I joined TCDB (hint: see my profile for my joining date)? (2 points)
4. How many MLB franchises have been to the World Series and have never lost one? Name the teams/franchises. (1 point for each answer / team correctly named, not telling the total points available because that would give away the first answer!)
5. Name the 3 MLB franchises to lose the most World Series. Give the number of WS losses for each team. (1 point per answer, 6 points total)
6. Cleveland is the AL franchise that won in 1948 and hasn't won since, giving it the longest drought in MLB. The Pirates (1979) are the NL team. Besides the teams that have not won a World Series at all, which franchises are next in line for longest droughts in each league? What year was their last WS win? (1 point for each team / answer, 4 points total)
As my rules usually go, you may update your answers, but you need to update ALL of them in your post. I will ONLY be using your last post to calculate your points. So if you answer 1-4 & 6 in your first post, and go back and only answer #5 in you follow-up, guess what? You only get credit for the points for #5.
Contest runs until 12:01 am EST, December 3, 2022. No entries timestamped after that will be accepted.
Grand prize will consist of at least 10 cards. If there is a tie, each grand prize winner will get at least 10 cards. If there is only 1 winner, 9 of the cards will be from a recent generous donation from another member. I'm not sure if they wish to be recognized publicly. I have already sent my thanks. If there is more than one grand prize winner, the 9 cards will be divided amongst the winners and others from the prize stack and from my personal stashes will be used. I will also attempt to slip in something from the winners' want lists. Prizes will consist of a mix of cards, but will always include starts and/or HOFers.
Yes, this is an all baseball contest. Baseball is my primary collecting focus (the hockey stuff is mostly my wife's), so the contest's question and prize focus will be on baseball. Good luck to everyone who participates.

The correct answers are as follows:
Congratulations to the EIGHT grand prize winners: I may already have your address, but I might ask anyway (unless you read this and send it to me before I ask - that would be nice of you). The drawing for the "Consolation Prize" will be held later today, when I can screen share with at least one other TCDB member whoi did not enter (neutral third-party witness). :) The following will be in the consolation drawing (with the number of points they received for their answers): Everyone who entered earned points. Congrats to all the winners. Look for a new post later with the info on the winner of the SN88 card!
FreehanSolo and FiresNBeers witnessed the procedure which consisted of creating a list of the 10 names - but giving each name as many listings as points earned in the contest (i.e., ComposerMike and rjsahl each had 21 entries, codence97 and stdolan each had 20, etc., down to pjdionne12 who had 2). Using random.org, I randomized that list 10 times (once for each participant). Copy/pasted that randomized list into a prize wheel (https://wheelofnames.com/), and the first name selected was to be the winner. And the winner is: Shaw Racing! Congrats, Jeff. You'll be getting a consolation prize.
