I did some careful research before posting this. There are none listed at PSA. None listed on COMC. One of the sellers on ebay even states "This may or may not be a 1/1". (Not a very promising statement.) No where on the boxes or packs does it say anything about including the plates (and you would think that would be huge news as it would've been a groundbreaking thing at this point).
I don't think these are official releases of Pacific's, and by extension, should not be listed here. Obviously, something exists out there, but the question is the legitimacy of them. We have seen other examples of "faked" plates from this time period. Please tell us what you know (or think) about these. Thank you.

By 1998, the craze for everything memorabilia / card hobby wise was simply nuts. Everyone in the hobby and in the business knew that some collectors would pay good money for almost anything. So what is the chance of people working at Pacific Card Company taking some of these plates and now putting them in the market? It would not be the first time something that was nevver "issued" made its way into the hobby.
I don't even look for printing plates as I find ti is really beyond reason but some do. I don't really care if they are listed or not but it may raise the question of anything else on here thta was not released yet found its way into the hobby.

If there's no proof they were inserted in packs they should not be listed.
Even IF they are real plates, if they were not inserted in the products they should not be listed.
And we should NEVER use ebay as proof of authenticity.

Someday my cards may double in value and then be worth half of what I paid for them.

Do not know about hockey or Pacific but (Take this with as a grain of salt).
A employee of Edge just before it went under. He stated that a lot of stuff went out the back door. He had a lot of Elway stuff that looked odd.

Bruno - Just got up to this portion of the Yzerman collection and didn't have any mention of them in my database (I kept meticulous records up to 2002-03 season). Sae them listed here and found it odd. We never chased Yzerman 1/1s, but if they had ever popped up anywhere, we'd keep a close eye on them.
Chuck - ebay was simply the only place I could see images of purported 98-99 PDI plates, it certainly didn't add to the legitimacy of these. Like I said, if anything, it lessened it by the one seller's "may not be a 1/1". maybe he even has several of the same one.
Jim - I know. I have some Star Co items I can never list here.

Billy, some companies like to "surprise" collectors with a bonus insert set here and there, so not all inserts are listed on all packaging, as annoying as that is. However, printing plates would not be a set they'd drop on people without an announcement. Just hoping someone else could shed some light on this.

I'm the weirdo who thinks an unannounced surprise in a pack is a good thing! But yeah, it makes it hard to authenticate 20 years later.

I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff. Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.

Didn't Pinnacle do the same thing in 97/98? I've never actually seen a Pacific plate, but I have seen a Pinnacle one online.

Wasn't insinuating anything, just a general statement to all members.
We've seen too many posts, "I saw this on ebay" or "I bought this on ebay and we need to add a checklist." And I suspect some members have created checklists without verifying authenticity/validity...JUST BECAUSE THEY HAVE SOMETHING IN-HAND.
