So I decided to open a factory set to see if I have any of the cards that are needing scans and found the factory set is not in order. The cards are all mixed up? Is this normal for factory sets?

Trying to acquire one card for every for every set, insert, parralle, minor, euro, team issue, oddball etc sets produced for Hockey. Been an interesting project.

This is increibly annoying, but normal. I think Fleer had a factory set that was in order, but most that I ever remember opening have been just like that - completely randomized in the order of the cards. I have heard of some factory sets that were not complete even. I have not had that issue yet luckily.

Every factory set I've opened has not been in numerical order. The complete set of sheets are probably cut and directly boxed. Imagine the work to sort them before boxing.

Someday my cards may double in value and then be worth half of what I paid for them.

In my 50 plus years of collecting I don't remember a single Factory Set or Collector Colated set that I opened that was in order or complete. It takes to long for a person to check to find out if it is complete for the implied warrenty to be in effect.

Back in the late 70’s when I bought some factory sets they always seemed to be missing a card or two. I would hand write a letter to the seller and hope to get a reply in a few weeks.

I got the 1991 Ultimate Draft Factory set in a trade (a big thank you to BOBSCARDZ for the trade) and the whole set was not in order. I went through them and put them in order myself but I think it's strange that they weren't in order.

I have personally purchased a factory sealed factory set and gotten shorted cards.
I don't know if I've ever purchased a hand collated set and have it complete.
My mom got me one of those Ultimate Draft sets for my birthday last year. It was factory sealed but missing a card. I got the missing card in trade here but I don't remember with who. It's technically my first completed hockey set but I don't count it due to it's extreme crappyness. And it's not NHL. When I told her Ultimate was ok, I was expecting the Original Six set. I was surprised when I got that instead.

I have seen a couple factory sets in order, but they are very rare.
I have seen 2 occasions where I wound up missing a card out of factory sets. It's actually a pretty good percentage as I have a lot of factory sets. (Actually, I still have several facory sets unopened in my collection. I need pages and binders before opening them.)
But seeing them in order is very rare.

So, my mom gave me a factory set for Easter. It did have all the cards, and no, they were not in order.
When I checked the packaging images, I see there are two other factory set boxes shown. Makes me wonder how many different versions of the box there are, and WHY they would make different versions...most people toss the packaging. (I'm the only one I know who saves it all)

It is as Chuck said, if you think of the way the cards are produced, there is really no way to have them in order unless the sheets are produced numerically in order as well. Theonly ones I think may have been in order were the mid to late 1980 Donruss factory sets when the cards were wrapped in packs of 100 cards inside the factory box. But I cannot recall this for sure.
