DITTO to what switzr1 said. It is technically a different product.

They arent really a parallel set though. They are called that on this site, for the sake of having somewhere to put them. But they are their own release. You cant get them in packs of hobby. So they are true RCs.

Agree with David and Adam. Usually, the only difference between a Hobby box and Retail box are the inserts available in each. But this release is more like a Topps vs Topps Chrome, separate releases. Same cards but different cardstock and coatings between Hobby and Retail.
The only thing I'm not sure about is if they share any inserts?

Someday my cards may double in value and then be worth half of what I paid for them.

I noticed here on the site that there are not any Absolute Football Retail checklists from 2015 to 2019. Prior to '20 2014 was the last one. Did Panini not release any retail version those years or are the checklists just not uploaded? While this next question should seem easy I will ask it. Does the hyphen denote the difference between a stand alone set and an insert? 2013 Retail has no hyphen and 2014 & '20 does.

Yes, the hyphen indicates it is a parallel/insert set (location-wise) of the main set before the hyphen. It's similar to what causes the confusion of Bowman - Chrome Prospects vs Bowman Chrome - Prospects in baseball every year.

I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff. Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.

According to cardboard and beckett they are both considered base (i guess) but the ones found in hobby are called base spectrum. Not sure why we go the other way and call base spectrum base while calling what they just call base "retail"

I think we originally had it that way, and somebody switched it.

When a product has Hobby and Retail versions, Hobby gets higher priority. Been that way for Ultra and other products too.

This is a big thing I hate about modern releases. Unless you have gotten all your cards from fresh packs there is no way of knowing if you got the retail or hobby version of a card until you try finding it here in the database. Then you feel like a fool when you report an inaccuracy because while holding your retail version of the card you complain that there is no serial number. Yep I did that in the last couple of days. I didn't see any of the notices that the hobby version is listed as the base and the retail is listed as a parallel set, (I would have the retail listed as "base"), nor did I see the note that the rookie cards from #s 100-200 or whatever the card number range is, are serial numbered. While the "retail" version is not serial numbered. /RANT
