Why are rookies in Topps Update sets no longer denoted with an "RC"? I have a bunch of rookie cards from these sets that somebody has decided for themselves aren't rookies. They meet the criteria for RC status according to the FAQ (i.e. they haven't been featured as major leaguers in a previous year's release and they're not inserts or parallels). There's no reason they shouldn't be counted as rookie cards. This doesn't just apply to the 2020 Update set but to Update sets in other years too.
Can anyone clear this up?

Can you please provide an example or two? Thanks

It could be the difference of the "true" rookie card vs. a rookie year card. Did the player have another RC in a previous series? That's the only thing I can think of.

There are times where the player was featureed in the flagship set (either series). Topps being Topps (though Panini does it too) will still place the RC stamp on these cards though are not the RC for the player. Ohtani in 2018 is an examlpe of this. He is #700 in the flagship set and US1 in the Update set. The first card is the true RC regardless of what is stamped on the card itself.

But his Opening Day RC is still a rookie card, his Heritage RC is still a rookie card, his Stadium Club RC is still a rookie card, etc. Why is the Update series being treated differently? It's simply inaccurate.

Again, without examples we're speculating on "could be's". If you you give us a hard example, we can explain precisely why (or see that we have it listed incorrectly). Either way, we all win with examples.

Those are all separate brands/releases. Topps Update is an update series to the Topps issue. Topps flagship is released in three series; Series 1, Series 2, and Update. If a player has an RC in Series 1, then any additional cards in Series, 2 or Update are not RC.

Someday my cards may double in value and then be worth half of what I paid for them.

I'm assuming Bo Bichette is one of the examples. He's in the main Topps set. That's why his Update isn't marked as "RC" on this site.

Series 1 and Series 2 are literally called that because they are two series of the same set. They are consecutively numbered and don't have separate entries as separate sets on TCDB because they're part of the same set, just released in two halves. Update is completely differently situated. You're comparing apples and oranges.
