This set has a copyright dat eof 1992 and has the 1991 statistics of the player son the back of the card. So why 1991 as the date of the set? I know it says "Diamond Edition 1991" on the back as well but I do beleive it was issued in the magazines of 1992.

My best guess is that the magazine said Best of 1991, but I think it should be changed to 1992.

Because that's what they called it "Diamond Edition 1991". And they were in the end of year issue of 1991.

Because the subject matter was 1991. It just happened to be printed or released in 1992.

We have plenty of sets that contradict the last and if it is copyright dated 1992, how coudl it have been issued in 11991? I brought it up but knew I would get pushback. That is what this site has become.

Ahh.... under that reasoning there will be a problem. If that's the case they when 2021 Topps flagship was released it would have been called 2020 Topps because it was 2020 subject matter being documented and "happened" to be released in 2021. And then carry that back for many years.....

I'm no expert on the set, but why couldn't it be released in 1991? The baseball season ends in October. An end of the year review set could easily be issued in November or December and still be published in 1991.

I am not a lawyer but how can you put "Copyright 1992" on something that is published in 1991 and produced in 1991? I am sure they did not go back and stamp all the cards this way in 1992. If a lawyer can explain that to me, then great.
Also your reasoning would make the set 1991-92 as each issue I beleive had 2 cards so if issued once a month, it would be all the way to the August 1992 issue.

Because the copyright itself is 1992 so that is when it was printed. You can't copyright something in a future year. Legal implications amongst other things. To Chuck's point, it could have been published with a Jan 1992 edition, but in hand in Dec 1991. Like I get my on magazine in Apr, but the cover Month is May or June.
Looking at the backs on eBay (easier to see) I can see why it may have been listed as 1991 as it states "Diamond Edition 1991" on there.

First and foremost, the copyright has nothing to do with what a set is called. If the company calls it "1991 Diamond Edition" then that's what it is. Just look at all the 2020 products being released in 2021.
