I`m just wondering how can you tell the difference between a Traded and a Tiffany Topps?

I believe you can tell by the asterisk count. I'll see if I can find my old notes tonight if you don't find an answer.

Tiffany also has a very glossy coating on the front, as opposed to the normal finish of the cards.

Probably doesn't help that of the few examples on TCDB, one can't be confident that any of them are correct. In almost every case where a card was uploaded to Tiffany, that same user uploaded the same card to non-Tiffany, usually on the same day.
For example 1989 Topps Traded Keith Atherton #4T and 1989 Topps Traded - Tiffany Keith Atherton #4T are the exact same picture, uploaded by the exact same user, on the exact same day.
Same with Jerry Browne (vs Tiffany), Felix Fermin (Tiffany), Pete O'Brien (Tiffany), Jesse Orosco (Tiffany).
After further research, the asterisk count does appear to apply to 1989.
Here shows a PSA graded non-Tiffany #41T. The PSA site shows a PSA graded Tiffany #41T. Both appear to have two asterisks to me. Back to the drawing board...

I have had a few trades where the trader sent me regular traded cards for Tiffany. The Tiffany cards re easy to distinguish with their high gloss finish. I think they are fooled by the brighter back of the card.

I used to find this difficult till I asked a store owner in Florida if he had any and could he show me the difference. If you have a Topps Tiffany, you will easily see the difference between the two. If you aren't sure, you probably don't have one.
The Fleer Tiffany or Gloss finishes are a bit more difficult to tell apart but you can see the gloss in bright light.

They feel different. If you have any of the old Topps Glossy All Stars from 80s rack packs, that is what Tiffanys feel like in hand.
-------------------------------
I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff. Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.
