1988 Donruss Baseball Forum

I compared a complete 1988 Donruss Factory set to around 3,000 cards I acquired via packs - card by card - and was able to determine that there are 319 different border variations.

While all six checklists have text variations on them, five of them (#'s 100, 300, 400, 500, 600) also have border variations, bringing up the total to 324.

What are you referring to by border variations? Is this t e switching of where the black border is (top right vs top left) or variations of the border design itself?

That would be my assumption.  It has long been pondered whether the entire set had border/corner variations, I guess this answers that question.  Lucky me, only one of my players has the variation!

Most online references I've seen would you to believe that all 1988 Donruss cards can be found with the border variation, where the stripes can be found on upper left / lower right, versus lower left / upper right. I knew that wasn't true, but until now I've never seen a checklist of those with the variations. Good stuff!!

I really only pay much attention to the Orioles cards in the set, but I think you'll find that all the cards in the set have variations of some sort.  The cards without a border variation on the front have wording and text variations on the back.  In addition, there's the INC. and INC (no period) variations on back.  All the Orioles cards in my team set have multiple variations either front or back.

Yes, I'm referring to the stripes being found on either the upper left / lower right or the lower left / upper right. The 319 cards listed above have both versions of the borders. Five checklists also have them, but they are already variations due to different numbering schemes.

We have them all listed here. I'm failing to see the point of this post.

Gut feeling, the Note2 doesn't specifically state that so may not have understood that it as accounted for already. 

Was hoping for visual proof to end my skepticism. 

In light if the recent Roberto Kelly #635 post, I'm wondering if there may have been more than one print run of the factory set.  Not sure I can bring my self to purchase several to test that theory.
