Rest in Peace, Conrad. I PC him because he was a guilty pleasure; loved watching his unabashed nasty, dirty playing. Just realized I'm just two cards short of completing my PC.

Someday my cards may double in value and then be worth half of what I paid for them.

On any Cowboys most-hated list, but truly he had a lineman's mentality. RIP Mr. Dobler.

The good old days when collecting all a players cards were like 8 cards for many players.
He was recognized as a very good player and worth being a player to collect.

I stopped collecting back around 1993 but started up again around 2010 when I thought it would be fun to collect former TCU Horned Frogs. My grandmother used to do that with Baylor Bears cards and my memories of card collecting were of what you describe. I figured there weren't a lot of big time stars from TCU that would have a bunch of cards (LaDainian Tomlinson excluded) and probably a bunch of commons so it seemed easy.
Boy had the hobby changed during my time away. Guys that barely even had a pro career had dozens of "rookie cards" along with the parallels, autos, relics, and whatnot. I probably should have just walked away right then, but I didn't and now I have a ridiculous amount of cards.

Turning off trading because my collection is in complete disarray after moving and I don't know when I can get it organized.

He played just a bit before my time, but he was great in the Miller Lite commercials from the '80s. Classic!
