The Chicago Cardinals were the original NFL franchise by that team name, then they moved to St. Louis before ending up in Arizona.

Thanks for that info Joshua. I actually didn't know that! My baseball knowledge goes way deeper than my NFL knowledge. That also helps explain why the Rams left LA for STL before they moved back there a few years ago. I always wondered why the Rams went from LA to STL, as well as why the Phoenix/Arizona team was called the Cardinals. Makes total sense now.

What a great topic. I have truly enjoyed reading and listening through everyone's posts. My musical tastes are litterally all over the map (metal, rock, blues, jazz, country, classical). I have been thinking on how to pick just four tunes. If you asked me a year from now, the list may be completely different. But "hear" it is:
1. I have spent alot of time attending concerts. This band opened for Queensryche in 1995 at the Gorge at George in Washington State, the greatest summertime concert venue on the planet in my opinion. Never seen anything like it before and became an instant fan. The lead singer/bassist passed away several years ago. Type O Negative - My Girlfriends Girlfriend
2. The Dixie Chicks ran into some issues many years ago, but this particular song became the ringtone on my phone for my wife. I see that they are trying to make a comeback. Dixie Chicks - Voices Inside My Head
3. I favor guitar centric music. Can't pass by Stevie Ray playing live on Austin City Limits covering the Hendrix song. Stevie Ray Vaughan - Voodoo Child
4. Our local FM radio station celebrated 25 years in 2019 and brought a bunch of modern rock/metal bands to our community. I fell head over heals for this band and their visuals on stage and videos. In This Moment - Sick Like Me

Berg, I am all over the map on music too. I loved Type O Negative and My Girlfriend's Girlfriend was one of their best songs (and certainly the best video). It crushed me when Peter Steele passed away. I never got to see them live!
TON never got the mainstream popularity they deserved. Type O did have a couple of songs considered hits but they never really got the air-time that they should have.
I don't care much for country music but recent singers are blurring the lines there. I also don't care for Stevie Ray Vaughan but I love some Hendrix. He was a guitar wizard!
My personal music leaning is towards mostly bass. I don't care if it is from guitars, drums or keyboards (or even deep windpipes), I like to physically feel the music I'm listening to. In your list, you left out rap and R&B. The bass in most of those genres gets me to pay attention to it. While I don't exactly agree with most lyrics, I listen to rap more than anything else right now. It has the bass I crave and the flow to stay smooth for the words with the sound. Personally, I think Metal has gotten louder without substance and Rock has gotten softer with nothing really catchy. Pop music has actually gained a ton of ground on those 2 the past several years for me. And what happened to Rap/Rock? Even Linkin Park is rapidly fading away.

I wasn't aware of In This Moment but I like what I see so far. The video for "As Above, So Below" reminds me of early Tool videos and also the "Puppetmaster" horror movie series. I never was a fan of horror movies and still don't care for them, but something about Puppetmaster enticed me to watch all of them from my youth to now. This band seems to fit right into that niche with their videos, but I love the music even without the videos!

Oh yeah, I follow you on the bass grooves from Rap plus R&B. More old school rap like Ice-T and Digital Underground stuff for me. Thanks for sharing.

I go a little farther back with NWA and all their solo albums (Eazy-E, Dr. Dre and Ice Cube) and then 2 Live Crew and such. My all-time favorite rap artists came from the mid to late-90's though. Outkast, Busta Rhymes and Three 6 Mafia would be my top 3 from then. My current favorites would be Future, 2 Chains and DaBaby. Outside of Rap, my all-time favorites would be Nine Inch Nails, Tool and Deftones. There is a lot of random stuff that I like between those outposts. Hendrix and Pink Floyd would be my old music, along with Motley Crue in the 80's. I really don't like any other "hair-metal" bands anymore but I'm still going to listen to a Crue song when it's on the radio. The "metal" of today is kind of scattered. Some are hard, some are melodic and some have no real direction. It's a really confusing time for music lovers now. There is so much smearing and scattering of supposed types of music these days!

The American "metal" scene, at least what the mainstream sees, is not really prevelent unless you are Metallica or, to a lesser extent, Megadeth. The "metal" being pushed by large labels here doesn't really qualify as metal, it's whatever some marketing person thinks can get few downloads, tickets and t-shirts. These bands tend to have little substance or structure. Most good American, real metal (all genres) is on independent labels, so no huge fanfare or mainstream play. Over in Europe it's a booming business with HUGE festivals (100+K, hope those don't go away) across the continent throughout the summer. When those bands come here, outside of say Iron Maiden, they are always club/theater tours catering to the underground not the masses. The masses here wouldn't accept it anyhow. I see very few mom's going to an Amon Amarth show....
I saw TON with my now -ex back in '07 (House of Blues, Anaheim). Great show. Agree with spaz's assessment, but that is in part of fickle American fadism. They thrived in the underground though, such was their following. Rap/rock (good riddance!) would fall into the same boat, Park having suffered with the loss of Chad with it.

Amon Amarth... haven't heard that name in a while! I have a friend that is all about the "underground" metal scene. He introduced me to all kinds of bands I never would have heard otherwise. Lamb of God, Kittie, Machines of Penalty and Mastodon to name a few. There is a local band that I found out about but he really didn't like them. I think it was mostly b/c they have 2 singers with different styles. They are called 3 Quarters Dead. Check them out and see if you like them.
