I totally believe that, Bruno.  I think most history-minded Americans are aware of the shortcomings of our history books.

And as far as WW1 goes, it seemed unlikely that the US was ever going to enter the war at all, so there was no wait-and-see option for men wanting to fight.  Wilson won re-election in '16 on a "He kept us out of war" slogan, when our country was far more isolationist.  But things changed after that.

All interesting stuff in our histories.  I know some still go out and join the French Foreign Legion. And Dave, no worries as the Allies were happy to see the USA join the fight (what was Japan thinking) and to this day, we continue to fight as allies no matter where it may be.  What our politicians do is beyond our militaries' control and neither side ever holds it against each other.

Even though Roosevelt had yet to have sufficient reason to bring America into WW II before Pearly Harbour, the support and supply lines were discreet yet substantial.

Substantial to say the least. Adding Russia to the Lend-Lease Act shortly before pearl Harbor was really opening things up.

Least anyone forget, Americans were also volunteering themselves by 1941. This might blow some younger Americans away, but we had the Flying Tigers in China. An all-volunteer force defending the Chinese homeland; I can see some with blown minds (where is that emoji?!). Forgotten history that China wasn't what it is now back then. These volunteers are on top of those that went to England, Finland and, yes, Canada.

The world remembers a major united effort to defeat a very cunning, smart but maniacal leader in Hitler. His world takeover was in the palm of his hands until the Normandy invasion had his Nazis fighting from both sides. The D-Day Invasion was a genius tactical move by the allied forces to confuse, dismantle and defeat the German stronghold in Europe. Hats off to the military minds that designed the invasion and eventually drive Hilter to committing sucide. And double hats off to the dedicated troops that fought through it all.
