I remember everyday. I wear my grandfather's dog-tag and never take it off. I have his flag that was laid over his casket in a frame along with his purple heart. He was born in Germany in 1913. He immigrated to America in the 1930s. When America entered WWII He enlisted. He did not just fight for the freedom he found in America. He fought to liberate Germany back to the country he remembered and loved. 

Today as always I when down to the local VFW and paid for two rounds of drinks. One for the men that were there and fought for our freedoms and the second for the friends they lost. I sat there and listened to their stories. Then went to the next VFW and did it again. I went to all 3 in my little town and did the same. 

I use to do the family and friend BBQ and or party. But found it meaningless as I got older. If you want to pay homage to the people that did what they did. You have to be with them and listen to their stories to really appreciate what we have. 

It's not always easy to hear their stories. But they need to tell them and you should hear them and then you will know the true cost of freedom.

Every legal holiday I have the opportunity to go to a meeting in my town.  I hope to pick up my 12 year coin.  I also hung with some other vets rehashing our careers.

Spoke with some Veterans from the DAV (Disabled American Veterans) on Sat...

Donated and chatted, they were handing out Poppies...

Can't get the younger vets to join and help out, Chapter has pretty muched stopped meetings,

Lockdowns didn't help, but was on the verge anyways...

Spent 5 years as Treasurer, so still feel the need to help out when I can...

Up here, we don't have Memorial Day, but we have the Veterans day in November and I always make sure to buy and wear a poppy.

Also, I like the idea to buy vets a round at the VFW / legion.

I slept safely and soundly in my own bed, not fearing if I will wake up or have to dodge bombs/bullets. (Well, I live in the USA so the latter is always a concern, and my health isn't that great so there is always a little fear of not waking up, but you hopefully get my point)
