Hi,
Could someone please tell me why some of the 2007 Upper Deck Masterpiece cards I have are glossy, front and back, and some of them are more a matte finish.

There is a Glossy parallel to the base set. Base cards are matte finish on both sides. Most other parallels have a "frame" layer on top of the border and it is the color of the parallel name.

I looked at the parallels and they are all numbered and the ones I have are not. The only difference in them is that they are glossy. Everything else is the exact same. Even the border color.

I don't know WHY they got left out, but I can see HOW they got left out. SO MANY parallels to Masterpieces! Thanks for bringing up the topic. You usually don't know what's missing from the DB if you don't have any of them.

Thank you. I knew they were different, but not that different. There are so many parallels to so many of the cards now a days. I have a heck of a time figuring out some of them anymore. It's really gotten quite out of hand, I think.

Everyone thinks it's gotten ridiculous, except the manufacturers! I guess they don't really care what collectors are saying about their products, as long as the products sell. I've been tired of double-digit numbers of parallels for a decade now, but it just doesn't stop. We can thank Topps and Panini for continuing to push out junk releases instead of actually listening to the collectors. It appears that they cater to the case-breakers and card-flippers.

Love Masterpieces but never knew there was a GLOSSY parallel. UGH.

Yeah. Masterpieces was nice in 2007 (and 2008), but the parallels were TOO much. I did (and still do) like the framed parallels, but there were still too many of them. Several shades of the same color that are mostly distinguishable ONLY by a serial number means there are way too many versions. UD really over-did it with this brand. I honestly think it was an attempt at a semi-high-end version of the cheap Topps Total product, but with the "fancy art" instead of actual photos. It doesn't matter what sport or year it is, I STILL have not completed a single rainbow from Topps Total or UD Masterpieces!
