ACEO history

ACEOs stemmed off of Artist Trading Cards (ATCs), an idea developed by the artist M.Vänçi Stirnemann. He based the size of ATCs on sports trading cards. ATCs can only be traded or given away. Their purpose is to share art and to encourage creative exchange between artists.

I have seen a  lot of my Nebraska players with ACEO cards and other custom cards a few years ago on E-bay but have not seen any lately.   They were priced way to high for me.  $15 to $25.  each.

I wouldn't mind some creative cards of players or teams I collect that fall under the category of unlicensed (and priced like a common), but crossing the line and taking advantage of the unaware shopper for bigger bucks bugs me. And not stating matter-of-factly that they're reprints, creations, or any other clarifying label sure does sound deceitful to me.

Agreed about the taking advantage of the unaware shopper for bigger bucks.   I have them on my want list (excel file) and willing to pay what a common is worth or a little more.

Some of you guy have TCDB card.     Did you know that JOGO has cards in sets of Lifetime Supporter?    I have a 2017 card #11 of Steve Rimbault.  I did ask him to join us here as he know a lot about all the JOGO cards.

Sure, some of the sellers are up front about the cards being fake.  They're the fence, circulating the counterfeit cards to people who WILL try to resell as authentic. They probably have dozens of each one, so that would be too suspicious of they sold dozens of fake Jordan RCs as authentic.  How ebay gets away with this involvement with piracy is beyond me.

A few points:

These sellers are in violation of ebay's policy. Fakes and forgeries are not allowed. They will claim that they are within the rules by "selling asa reprint", but unless the card has reprint on it, it's flat out a fake, meant to deceive the public. They can only be stopped by reporting them to ebay for copyright voilations.

ACEO/Art Cards - whatever about how they look, etc. As quoted from ACEO.org, they were supposed to be treated as casually as a business card - i.e., given away. When you find several of these on ebay (and several were listed here at one point, I don't know if they still are) that are SN15 or less, these are no longer being made to be given out and traded. When they use someone's likeness or team logos without permission, they also are creating cards that are not legal.

TCDB cards - we joke about them being worth thousands and stuff, but they have been (at least to my knowledge), simply in the spirit of the ACEO cards. I hope none have gone up on ebay.

So please, if you see a fake being called a reprint, please report it. you may not be able to stop all of them, but every one you do stop is one less.

Back to the original topic, the example in the eBay listing is really washed out, like someone took a scan of a scan of a scan of a real one and had cards printed from the that.  Colors on a real one 'pop'.  The most common fakes, have one or a combo of these features:

• The yellow beneath the Fleer logo on front is one color instead of two.
• Missing period between 27 and 2 on the back
• Clarity of the Bulls eyes on back

These eliminate a high % of fakes, or if there's not a good enough image to determine, stay away.  I personally wouldn't touch any raw Jordan RC, why would a seller leave that much money on the table?  There's even been instances of fake graded slabs with counterfeit cards inside circulating on Craigslist and the like, so you have to do your homework on those too.

Has dsorek put my autographed TCDB card for sale on Ebay!? That's how he was able to afford that California trip.
