Hi All,
Seems like we have gotten quite a few new users over the last couple weeks (or maybe it just looks that way). In any event, I'd like to take this opportunity to welcome you to what we call the best trading card web site available. We really do think that, and you probably will to, once you take the time to discover all that's at your fingertips here.
I do want to point anyone who is new to the FAQ page. http://www.tradingcarddb.com/FAQ.cfm I've been a member here for more than 4 years and I still reference stuff on that page! Also, this site is more than checklists. There are scans of cards (so you know what you're looking for, or to help you identify what you have), there are different categories to put the cards in your collection ("collection", "for sale/trade", & "want list"), and more. By adding cards to the FS/FT and want lists, you can set up trades or other transactions - the site has a fully integrated transaction manager to assist with putting the proposal together.
Like I said, there is a lot here - more than just checklists. It takes a while to discover it all. Take your time, have fun, enjoy it. And most of all - Welcome!
There is also a lot of work still going on, cleaning up checklists, adding the missing ones, and ensuring the database has all the correct player and team links. There are many people who help out in this area. And boy do we appreciate that. If you are interested in helping out in any way, but are unsure of how to do something, please feel free to private message me (click on my user name on the left side there, and on that page there should be a link near the top that says "Message" with an envelope icon next to it). I promise to get back to you ASAP (it may not be immediate because I don't live on my computer - seems like it sometimes - but I will get back to you as soon as I'm able). I have a great deal of respect for those who ask questions. I'll be happy to help you out. Again, welcome aboard. Feel free to move about the site. It's a fun ride.

-- Dan -- Note: Please see my profile for more info regarding trading (section updated 3/4/2024). I have added a large portion of my inventory to the site, and currently have trading turned on (details are in my profile).

I'm glad you posted this Dan. I am also more than happy to help new members learn this site and start contributing to the best card database on the planet! This site is much better than anything that has come before it and more extensive than anything that currently exists. I don't see how any site will ever approach the amount of knowledge and info that this site and its' members have for anything related to trading cards!

Yes, welcome to all new members. If you are a true collector, you will find that you are on this site almost every day as it becomes a big part of your person al hobby. Almost an addiction.
This site can be a lot more than you can even imagine in your first few weeks here. The key is explore the site, read plenty, and as Dan said, ask plenty of questions ifyou can't find the answer. Many experienced members will gladly help you out.
As all collectors do, the first thing you will want to do is to enter your collection into the database. But there are things in doing so toconsider. You may wish to think itout beforegoingtofarahead (no problem though if you already have and now wish to change it; Admin can delete it for you). I also then strongly encourage you toloadup your For Sale / Trade Lists along with your Want List. Complete lists will allow you to propose trades or other members to propose to you a trade.
As time goes on,you will want to contribute back tothe site. There are many things you can do. To do so,go through the Permissions and get access in order to do the things you can to contribute. But again here, ask questions if you are unsure. There are ways of doing things that are very helpful and other ways which, though not wrong, can cause extra work for others to contribute in the same area.
If you see something that is not accurateand you don'thave the Permissions to correct it, advise Admin or bring it up in a Forum thread. You will find that itgetscorrected quite quickly.
Welcome aboard and enjoy the experience.

I joined this site a little over a week ago, and I have been back on here every day since. This is a card collector's dream. Kudos to all of you that have helped make this site what it is. I'll try to help in anyway I can to keep the site rolling along. This is great. Thanks again to everybody

Welcome to all new members of this site. I joined almost 6 years ago for the checklists. As a team collector this site was very important in trying to organize my collection. I used it as reference only.
This changed about 2 years ago as I started to enter a wantlist and a for trade list. Without really trying I have been able to complete some trades. The transaction manager makes it very easy. I am not that familiar with other sites so I can not say this site is better or worse. All I know is from my own experience and I would have no reason to look anywhere else for trading or trying to organize a card collection.
Whoever it is that makes this site run smoothly, keep up the great work. Thanks.

I joined last month and am really enjoying the experience so far! My biggest issue is finding the time to enter my collection.

So true. I've been here a little over a year and I've come a long way but I still have a lot more to add.

I think the recent influx of new members could be related in part to the situation with Zistle. That site has been in limbo for many months, and members were slowly leaving. Then, in late January or early Februay, a member posted in the forums that Beckett was going to shut the site down imminently.
Myself, I had stopped adding cards to my collection there last summer, not wanting to invest any more time without knowing where the site was going. I'm sure a lot of other members felt the same, and the recent forum post (valid or not) provided the final kick in the pants to say, "Stop waiting and move on!"
I'm so glad I did.
