I have seen quite a few cards of very little value on the site being listed on the site at outrageous prices. Here is just one of many, many examples: http://www.tradingcarddb.com/ViewCard.cfm/sid/74549/cid/5518399
I have never seen a base card from this set sell for more than $1, yet this was listed at $450.00 until I just submitted a price for it. I would like to think it was an honest mistake, but there are lots of these, often within the same sets that are listed for way more than they should be. Anyone else think that they are being submitted by people who want to artifically inflate the value of their sets on the site?

looking at the profile of the person who submitted this price it looks like they joined for 1 day and dont have any cards in their collection, so it could have been someone just messing with the site.

If we want to give even a tiny bit of validity to the price (and maybe we don't?) I think ability to add a price should be part of the permissions.

I agree with CrazieJoe, or the only prices you should be able to adjust are for your own collection for others to see. Although, I admit I use auction prices on limited print-run cards to catalog prices for my own knowledge. Perhaps, the only person able to see prices you input in that case would be yourself?

I ignore prices here. They do vary for whatever reason. A card price might have been put in 10 years ago when a guy was a hot rookie. But he never panned out and current price might be a nickel.

But I was planning on selling my collection to someone who accepts the prices listed here, then buying the entire collection back. Three times.

i wouldn't worry about prices unless 1. you just want to track how much you paid for something over time or 2.you plan on selling your set or cards and list prices to give a potential buyer an idea of what you're asking for it.. other than that.. they're really really worthless.. much like this election (drum roll)

Yes, people make up prices on here. Sometimes, I assume they are doing so to provide a reference to an unaware buyer they intend to rip off. "Look, this website with over 14,000 members says this Sal Butera card is worth $400.00. I'll sell it to you for $300.00" I feel the presence of completely bogus card prices takes away a ton of our site's credibility. There should be a minimum membership standard of some sort (time, points, whatever) to be able to report prices. I also feel strongly that ALL reported prices should drop off after one year, and the formula for determining value should adjust for each card accordingly. Not much about our hobby is stable except true vintage cards of long-dead people. If a player is alive, he can do things, good or bad, on or off the field, to sway his card prices. We can't pretend that the Johnny Manziel card you overpaid for a couple years ago is worth anything near that price now. But if nobody reports a lower August 2016 price, that 2014 price stands unchecked. And if he makes a team and wins league MVP in 2017, a low August 2016 price could stand as well. Maybe old prices do drop off. I don't know the formula used to determine value on this site. But if they don't, I really think they should.

I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff. Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.

I like the pricing feature and I agree that it should be granted as part of permissions.
I buy a lot of cards on eBay and I like referring to the prices on this site to get an idea of what price range I should expect once I start a search on eBay looking to make a purchase.
eBay contains a trove of great pricing information. What better way to determine the value of an item than what the public is willing to pay?
I agree with Billy that I'm a collector and the "value" of my collection really doesn't mean anything to me. I'm never going to sell what I have. However, I like taking a look at my collection summary and checking out what the current "value" of my collection is.
