18 cents is the lowest sellers are allowed to go on Sportlots unless they are one of the extremely high-volume sellers. I think they can go as low as 15 cents. But, yeah, most of the cards list at 18 cents are probably realisticly in the 5 cent range if you were buying in-person. I think the 18 cent thing had to do with the cost of transactions for the various payment processing, and it was a money losing proposition below that.

All prices here should be real world purchases at the time shown. (Some do not show dates). Sportlots shows the date of purchase so anyone how know anything about cards should understand that price at that time and they are looking at Sportslots and not Becket Market Place or E-Bay. Now I do not think you will see a .18 Tom Brady but in 2001 you may have. Then think about Ryan Leaf when he come out and what the prices are then and now. Check the dates.
Admin has done things to try to clean up the prices and help us out with this issue. Yes!! he could do more but that is not on top of his list to do. Way too many other things that he could do for the database.
All platforms have some amounts build in processing so maybe we should be listing what the sellers really gets for the card instead of the buyer??? The seller value is lower than the buyer's value so what is the real value?? We all know this issue will never end.

Also we need to be realistic as well. The site shows values at one site (if nobody enters other market place prices) It should be a average of prices at other sites too but who has time to do all that on a manual basis.
Sports card marketcaps are a tricky thing.
Each person must do more research and not think .18 cents for certain cards is normal :)

I guess my question is what are people using the pricing here for?
If it is to see if a trade is fair or not, it's not very hard to look up a couple prices on ebay etc and confirm the prices are close and enter in a couple prices if they don't reflect what you are seeing.
For me personally, I use them to see if I'm getting a good deal at card shows as I generally find the prices here to be lower than what I see in the wild. If I find a card cheaper then I feel I'm getting a good deal and not getting ripped off. Or when I'm flipping through cards in a dollar or 10 cent box, I'll use this site to see if the card is worth grabbing.

The flip side is that many prices in here were entered before pandemic pricing kicked in so prices in the wild will be higher in many cases.

The entire concept of a price guide has always bugged me. It's not a ledger of how much a card is worth. It's very literally a "guide" to give you an idea of the neighborhood for what people are generally getting for a card. I think there are too many people that let the guide determine the value rather than just report what the market is doing.

Turning off trading because my collection is in complete disarray after moving and I don't know when I can get it organized.

How about a category under edit card that allows you to add your own estimated price and doesn't affect the prices as per the site now...something like my price or my perceived value. I'm not sure what a technical nightmare that would be but it is something that occurred to me.
