I'm correcting and composing a bunch of checklists for tennis sets.  However, it seems the team name is blank for all the tennis players which seems odd to me.  Tennis players don't play for a specific team so I get the point for leaving it blank.  However, tennis is an international sport.  Tennis players are sponsored by their country and the player's country name or flag affiliation is listed on the majority of cards that are produced by the manufacturer so only makes sense the team name for a tennis player uses different criteria  The tennis player's country affiliate is spoken or shown when the player is introduced onto the tennis court & on the scoreboard for identification purposes for their tennis match. The women and men's tennis tours currently are not showing the flag or making any visual or verbal recognition for any tennis player that ihas the player sponsorship of Russia or Belarus because they don't wish to advertise the country the tennis player is playing for..  FYI...Wimbledon has released a memo this week which officially banned all tennis players who are competing for Russia or Belarus from competition at this year's event so the tennis tour uses player's country sponsorship to make that determination so makes sense to classify a tennis player's country sponsorship for team name since just shows country name is used as well in the real world along with trading cards.  Tennis players don't wear team uniforms and don't often wear their country's sponsorship colors for their matches but Ukrainian players were wearing blue and yellow this year while playing at tennis events in the USA this year because they would like for it to make it more obvious to the fans watching that Ukraine is their country they represent since most people now know Ukraine's country colors are Blue and yellow and to help shed some light on the war going on in their country.   Just would help provide more details in the system where I assume the more info, the better. Tennis players have switched teams in the past where they switch country affiliation because their country withholds funds or tells the player where they can or cannot compete which is why Martina Navratilova switched country sponsorship early in her career from Czechoslovakia to United States.  
Hope that provides some insight.  That's my two cents.  Just seems like any international sport should use a country name instead since that information is seldom ambiguous. I'm not looking to start drama, just a healthy conversation.  Rules are rules so I understand the other side of the coin and won't kickback hard on the issue.  But I figure the more information the better on this site since what harm could listing a country as team name do to this website.  Just curious to see if anybody on here has the same thought as me.  Thanks for listening. 

I agree with what you say . But unless they play for thier Davis cup national team and sometimes Olympics. Its an individual sport like Golf. In soccer all players have a club team and the majority actually never play for the national team. The ATP pays Nadal, Spain doesnt pay Nadal. I think thats how it works..

Yes. If the player is on an Olympic Card or what not where they are representing their country specifically in a competition they should be linked to the International Team of that country in the database which you can find the TIDs in multi-sport. If it is a tour card where they are individual athletes they should not have a team listed.

Keep in mind World Team Tennis. Doubtful they ever made cards of them but those are actual teams associated with tennis players. 

World Team Tennis is a tennis exhibition which is not associated with directly with either WTA Tour or ATP Tour and WTT has never issued tennis cards ever with its league.  ATP Cup, Davis Cup & Billie Jean Cup & Laver Cup are only team events sanctioned by the tours but those team events don't issue cards either for any of these Cup events. Tennis cards have to get the approval of the tour. Male players play on ATP Tour and women play on WTA Tour but using the tour names as teams doesn't enhance the identification since men can only play on ATP Tour and women can only play on WTA Tour. 
Tennis is an individual sport like golf.  I get it.  The soccer example does not exist in the tennis world since tennis players can only play for where they have citizenship & no club teams exist for tennis.  Tennis players do get paid by the tour, however, tennis players do have to pay taxes on that income they receive to their country of citizenship they are registered under the tour.  Hence, that's why tennis players often change/move their official residence on paper to Monaco since no personal income tax is collected there so they can keep their full paycheck.  

If Nadal has another team choice besides Spain listed on his tennis cards, please let me know.
