Right, it shouldn't be, it's because Panini is lazy, so do we have to follow that? I was always informed that when adding lists, use full names whenever its correct. I have the 2023/24 Panini LaLiga Este stickers checklist almost finished and ready to add, but afraid once it posts all those with all that Knowledge of "Soccer" will change it to where it's a mess to even look at.

Yes, entries should match what's printed on the cards themselves except in the cases listed below:
Case 1: If a card is printed with a misspelled name, the name should be listed properly on the checklist entry, with a note added addressing the error. (Ex: UER: Name misspelled DiMagio)
Case 2: If a card is printed with only part of the person's name (ie. Wagner, H.Wagner, etc.) due to stylistic decisions by the card company, the full name should be used in the checklist entry. This aids in the site's searchability. It does not pertain to people who usually go by a single name (ie. Ichiro, Pele, etc.).
Case 3: If the name is printed in all caps or all lower case due to stylistic decisions by the card company, the name should be entered into the checklist with title case capitalization.
If the player is generally known by a single name and that's what's on the card, that's what we use here.

But for soccer it's ridiculous with so many players having the same nickname. And doing that doesn't "...aids in the site's searchability."

Someday my cards may double in value and then be worth half of what I paid for them.

Wow, That doesn't even make sense, so just because Panini has no standards, we should too? I am starting to think I should've stayed in one war zone as it seems like I stepped into another. If you feel the need to Muck it up, just leave Real Madrid and Spain teams alone, that way at least my collection is organized. Really don't care if Primer or MLS is hard to do search

Some points...
1) Chuck it is ridiculous, but that is how the players go by and then identified on a card.
2) The site evolves. Back in the day this card would have had only Bryce Harper / Jean Segura in the name field. Now it looks like this... https://www.tcdb.com/ViewCard.cfm/sid/233434/cid/15490938/2020-Topps-Update-U-74-Rockin'-Philly-(Bryce-Harper-/-Jean-Segura)?PageIndex=1
3) As long as the original uploader makes sure all the cards are properly linked, you can change the name field to anything and the card will still link to the correct PID as long as the "clear PID" button is not toggled. I could change every name field in 1980-81 OPC Hockey to "Bowl of Fruit" and all the cards will still be attached to the correct PID. So if somebody goes and changes "Nacho Smith" to just "Nacho" since that is what is on the card it will still link to "Nacho Smith."
The site evolves. This is a discussion Bruno and I had when we met up at the Expo. Just look at the Rediscover Topps sets in 2017 Topps. These originally were added to the site with a whole different numbering system in just 3 sets. Then the numbering system was changed as the site's abilities improved with note2. Finally the 3 massive sets are now dozens of smaller sets.
Things change as technology and site ability improves

Agreed, but a few things can help with this:
1. For any single-name alias that was used by multiple players, either transfer it to the most-recent player to use it (so any new checklists use that profile), or remove it completely, forcing the checklist uploader to choose the correct profile from the list of options (and hoping they don't eventually add the alias).
2. Helpful "Same Name" differentiators. Right now a majority use "b. YYYY[-MM]" since we're limited to 10 characters, but Admin and I had a discussion a few months ago about how to improve this area. If it gets implemented, we'll see.

There is also a Feature Tracker submission that would force individuals to choose the correct PID when the system has multiple of the same name.

I'll never quit collecting entirely, but I am downsizing. Check out my COMC store and help me thin out what I don't want so I can buy cards that I do want. See something you like? Send me a message on here, and we can knock the price down quite a bit. I'll even take a bit of a loss if it means getting you a card you really want.
