Yup. A good example for football would be the 1984 and 1985 Topps USFL sets. Those cards were only available in factory sets.

However... kinda along similar lines... I'm not sure how Beckett labels the first pro football card for Doug Pederson (Eagles head coach, and former QB). It was in the 1992 Wild Card World League set, and those were only available/sold in packs.

IMHO, the Beckett-created "XRC" should be removed from our database. It was created to raise prices and desire for non-RC cards. Topps is pretty much doing the same, substitute "1st Bowman" for "XRC". Since they can't put the RC logo on non-rookie cards, they're circumventing the MLB rules and tagging them "1st Bowman". In hopes of creating sales for minor leaguer non-RC cards.

Just curious about your opinion of the example I mentioned above. Should football collectors consider USFL cards to be "minor league" cards?

Also, what about Kurt Warner's first Iowa Barnstormers card? or Jeff Garcia's first Jogo CFL card? Personally, I find stuff like these so much more interesting than their NFL "rookie" cards, but I realize that I'm in the minority.

Regardless, should they fall under the same category as college or some AA affiliate card?
