When adding a "detailed add" to your collection, there is an option to enter the company acronym for graded cards. Some are identical to what is on the grade label on th egraded card but some aren't, either through a change in the company's methods or simply the hobby's own invention of an acronym. Particularly, I have 2 graded cards (gained through a mass purchase of cards as I don't chase graded cards) that I am not sure what acronym goes with them. One is Beckett - the "B" logo is not part of the silver label showing the grade; it is in white, the "B" being bracketed by laurels and "BECKETT" under it. The other is GEM Grading Inc.
Thanks for the help.

I've read articles about GEM having high percentages of counterfeits.
Here are the different Beckett services:

Someday my cards may double in value and then be worth half of what I paid for them.

The question is not about which grading service to use; I don't care for any of them as I believe they have harmed the true hobby more than they have benefitted it. The question is about the acronyms we have in the database. I can't copy the list but when you go to a detailed add, the window for grader has a long list of the acronyms invented for all the different companies. Is there anywhere on the site where there is a gloassary for these acronyms? And no, don't point to the Glossary at the bottom of this page as I have checked there.
Chuck, from your site, I assume BGS is a version of Beckett - Beckett Grading Services. I see they are also the BCCG - Beckett Collectors Club Grading and BVG - Beckett Vintage Grading. Beckett has even managed to mess grading up. They really are priceless.
Of course this still leaves a long list of acronyms that have no definition.

Some day you need to run classes on how to screen capture. I could not use the snipping tool with the drop down menu visible.
And our list is way short of what you found. GEM isn't even on our list.
As always, thanks Chuck.

As you can see by cl_kyle's list, there are many fly-by-night, irreputable, shady grading companies. IMO, the dropdown could be shortened to the top three reputable companies (BECKETT, PSA, SGC) and an OTHER. If I were buying a graded card, for authenticity only, those three are the only ones I would have any trust in.

Agreed on shortening the list and could see combining BGS/BVG as Beckett, but BCCG uses an entirely different grading scale. Early SCD and GAI are some others I would consider more reputable than others on the list, but they're few and far between and could fall under 'Other' easily.
ETA: I'm looking for a card in a Snaggletooth holder just because I think it's the funniest of the fly-by-nights.
