I am thinking about moving my collection over to this site. I use to use Cardbase but since they were bought or merged with collectibles.com it is useless. One feature I liked is I could export collection to excel which to me was a decent back up option. Does this site have that feature? I see the pdf, but I would like excel.

No export to excel is available, there are no plans to add it.

It's a shame really they don't offer it... but if they did it would be a game changer. TCDB is great for so many things, but the ability to sort and make reports by user define metrics is not one of them. Allowing for excel export would alleviate this.

It'll never be added or offered because Admin doesn't want the data being downloaded and added to other systems.

Being able to create more custom reports would be very cool, and maybe that's something Admin can do here, but there's no way he wants to enable exporting collections to Excel because that would drive traffic off of the site, which would defeat the purpose of paying for and maintaining it.

I feel like it would add extra value. Perhaps I am wrong, but for starters I wouldnt mind being able to download it as a back up. I mean what if a few years down the line the site was to close? All my work would be lost so to speak. I also would find it handy for things like insurance. I am not sure how people would down load it and take it to another site. That said, I really like this site, I also donate each month to it, to help support it. What kind of improvements are on the table right now? Anyone know.

Here's everything that's been added, most recent at the top. There's one Admin that works on the site.

So let me start by saying love this site since I found it. Thinking I wanna use it to track my large collection. I even started throwing a few dollars each month to help support the site cause you guys who are behind this are truly awesome. Drinking all the Kool-Aid by buying a shirt. MY ONLY CONCERN with there not being an excel type of download option is what if something happens and this site decides to shut down? Would we be able to download our data? with my current site I have that option so I back it up. that is my only real concern!
THoughts anyone?

I think that's a concern that we all have and something we'll need to live with as long as we use this site. I'm all in as well: ad-free, t-shirt, etc.
Not sure if there's much we can do aside from ask for that feature to be implemented (a lot of folks concur that it's not going to happen) or track in an external spreadsheet, local database instance, etc.
