Please spread the word about this honest seller enigma! That's refreshing to see. I'll assume the money was not made in the surprise tax value, haha.

ebay calculates the tax from the total cost - which includes the shipping fees. The seller does NOT see any of the tax that is collected - that is strictly ebay's money. So from budler's purchase, the seller saw $1.14 come into their account, then they losts some for the final value fee (probably about 30 cents, plus ebay takes 10% of the shipping fee, they lost another 6 cents from that.

The 33% tax that they collected seems a bit much. I paid 33 cents on a $4 order yesterday, which is the customary 8.25% here in my county.

A couple of thoughts without having read every post in this thread....

If I want to get a ballpark value for a card, I look at multiple sources....the price history here, Sportlots, ebay, the hated Beckett. I suggest not just relying on only one source when trying to place a value on a card.

Sportlots....I've recently set up a store there. If I put a mid-range or high price on say a Tom Brady card and there are 500 of that card on Sportlots AND several sellers have that card at the base of .18 or even say .25, who are the buyers more likely to purchase from? The store with a $2-$5 price or one with a 'bargain' price?

When setting prices on there I have to take in to consideration the prices from multiple sources, how many other copies of that card are on Sportlots, what the other asking prices are, and what my main goal is with a store. Do I want to get as much money as possible? If so, maybe ebay is better as people seem to over-pay there more often. If I just want to get some of the 15K duplicate cards out of my basement (which is mostly me) then I set prices toward the lower end to get the stuff out of my house.

I don't use the pricing on TCDB as a source...I question its validity...always have, even before SportLots was utilized for comps.  With that said I am not saying there is anything wrong with it either, but in my own opinion, the sole purpose of the price on TCDB is a baseline to determine if a card is worth doing more research on, checking recent sold comps, to determine if it has a higher trade value. If it does it gets sleeved and catalogued accordingly in my FST items and I will know to check it again should it be requested in a future trade.  

i dont know how old the pricing was on the brady cards but i know that i've never seen one. 10-20 years ago is pretty old and i cant see them selling at .18 during those times but like I said I have never seen 1 and im looking for evidence. everything seems to be sold at 18 cents according to tcdb and im just saying It doesnt make sense to me.

That makes sense. Can you guide me to the proof of these sold prices?  Does the person entering prices for these things have to enter every single one on the site here? I would have more empathy for the people who do

after shipping costs it is not a .20 card though. Right? I do see your point but brady and edwards at .20 is impossible. Now if someone bought a huge mega lot of cards and averaged them out to .18 cents that would be different and unfair at the same time. maybe thats what happened. 

I am also a set builder. Im was trying to figure out the site but I dont see how they can possibly that low. I could also be using it wrong. I am looking at things realistically too. Im not looking at 52 topps cards for $1. 

just because we are on the subject. I need to find people on there willing to fill want lists? any leads would be nice.

I love what you said. I have always held back on just cussing someone on here out for wanting mantle cards for their commons because maybe they dont know or possibly dont care about pricing. That says something about me though. I was raised in the street and I have always had someone trying to take advantage of me. I probably have made trade requests that others would see as one sided but I expect counter offers in that situation. I WISH there was someone who traded like you guys did back then. I had a canada guy who was a great trading partner and we had a falling out over something else. I dont care about pricing when dealing with certain people. thanks for your input

Sportlots has the system that downloads the prices not a person.  The owner does not do it one card price at a time.   We do not know exactly how or when a download is sent over and put on TCDb system.    Sportlots would not be downloading them if they are not a completed sale.  As for me I quit downloading my cards from Sportlots when they started doing it.  So there would not be 2 listings for the one card.

I get frustrated when members that complain about Sportlots prices keep being up Tom Brady all the time.  We all know his cards have gone up. (way up)   A lot of us remembers when you could buy some of his rookie cards around $1.  No hype so no demand for him in his first few years.  When I got my nephew's collection, he had 2 of the 2000 Pacific Tom Brady's rookie cards marked at $1.50 and he marked everything on the high side.  I do not know when he marked them or what he paid for them.  I sold them for $50 each.   I sold a lot of Joe Montana RC for around $2 but that was what they were going for at the time.   Also traded a few for some cards now worth less then .18 now.  

Another thing is members keep bring up shipping cost but no one talks about what the seller really gets in his pocket after everything is done.   To the seller what he puts in his pocket is what it is worth to him at that time not what the buyer paid for it.
