May want to double check the authentication fee. Over X-mas I bought a pair of sneakers for my son. Because they were limited edition and all that jazz they were "required" to be authenticated by a third-party before being sent to myself. Cost me $13 extra, actually more because CT taxes that amount on top of the sale and shipping costs.

As of right now they don't charge for authentication of trading cards specifically but their terms and conditions basically say they can start whenever they want "The Services are provided at no cost to sellers and buyers for Eligible Items that are bought or sold on eBay.com; however, eBay reserves the right to institute, alter, or amend fees or costs associated with the Services at any time, at eBay's sole discretion."

Obviously they wanted to confirm that it really was 4uuuu Trs who signed it.

Oops...my bad. I just saw so many things wrong with the listing itself that I went down the path of the card being an issue.  Regardless, as others have stated, eBay is not currently charging directly for authentication of cards.  Although right around the time that they starting authenticating for "free" eBay seller fees went up.

C2Cigars is the winner! It is indeed from the 1997 Fleer Sports Illustrated set, not the 1999 Fleer Sports Illustrated set, which only has 1 autographed card and not Mays. It is the 1999 Sports Illustrated Greats of the Game issue that has the Mays auto. As he pointed out it does have the embossed authenticity stamp and it was SN250 on the back as stated in the title, and as it should be (sometimes you find these serial numbered to other numbers, these were reissued in later Fleer products). Fortunately for me, I knew what it was when I bought it - this was one of the 2 autos I was missing to the set, and had some Christmas money to splurge on it. But just an example of these great authentication services that seem worthless when things like this get by them. If they can’t get this right, why should I trust them to verify if a personally signed card is real?

Just FYI, they do not authenticate the listing. The seller sends them the card after it sells and it gets authenticated then by their third party (PSA/CGC depending on what it is). Everything wrong in the listing is on the seller as Ebay doesn't check the accuracy of it.

The ONLY thing NOT wrong with the card is that it's Mays.

They just authenticate the card. They do not authenticate autographs.
