I am looking for an effective way to just keep track of, and to be able to search my collection for specific cards. Is this a platform I can do that with, or do you have any suggestions?

Search no further. You've found your Shangri-La.

Someday my cards may double in value and then be worth half of what I paid for them.

I agree with Chuck but I do recommend you learn the ins and outs of this site before you rush in. In the long run, it will save you much time and make it more enjoyable.

This database is by far the best tool to tracking a collection that I have found. Since I found this place many years ago, I have learned about cards sets I didn't know existed, variations of cards I didn't know existed, and variations of cards that were better off not existing. Also the collective knowledge of the people that call this database home is one of the best sources you will find anywhere. Although I don't do a lot of trading on this site, it does have some of the most trustworthy group of people you will find. Most people here have an honest passion for there hobby and love to share it with others.

Welcome! This site is great!!! I've had baseball cards since the early 70's and have inadvertently learned more about cards than I ever thought. I've learned to trade and share cards. All to my surprise. I just came here looking for a place to catalog my collection.

Thank you so much for your feedback. Can I ask that you elaborate on what I should learn about the site before I "jump right in"? At least get me pointed in the right direction.

I am not sure of everything sandyrusty was talking about. He is probably referring to things you can do to save time when logging your Collection. That would be one thing to learn. There are ways of logging multiple Cards at once instead of doing them one at a time. You can record an entire Set at once rather than one Card at a time. There are things that need to be done a certain way. For example, only scans of Cards in hand are allowed for images. No pictures or anything. There are other ways/rules things are done when trying to help the site. All aspects (checklists, images, changes to info, etc) are member driven, if something is done incorrectly it causes work for others to fix it. I have always sought guidance from others before diving into doing things that are setup to help the site. I would guess that is some of the things sandyrusty was referring to.
If you are an avid Card Collector you will find this site very helpful and user friendly. Hope this helps get you started.

Before you jump right in, take your time by exploring the site. Check out all the features and how you can search for players and the quickest way to catalogue cards (Filters is a huge timesaver)
Reading up on past forum topics. There's plenty there about how to upload scans, find "mystery" cards, general etiquette, etc. That being said, I don't believe in dumb questions, we all learned somewhere.
And most important, have fun! We're all here to help each other build our collections

I could probably buy the already complete sets cheaper somewhere else, but I like getting my maildays.

Yes, this website should be able to help. I came across it in 2016 and love it. A great supplement to my own databases as I can actually see a picture of a card (most times) so it removes any ambiguity of the card I am actually holding in my hand.
And I agree with earlier comments that you should explore the site and see how it can benefit you before rushing in and adding a bunch of cards.
