I'd consider hanging on to at least the HOFers, superstars, and well known rookies. I donated tons of junk era some years back. Don't miss most of them but later I did start wanting some stars again.

One person's garbage is another person's prized possession.
I'll spend $40 to binder a set worth $10. If you aren't selling or keeping cards as investments then the monetary value of them shouldn't matter.

All great suggestions and input, thank you!
to clarify, I have been uploading my collection bit by bit with the goal of selling what has value. This post was really meant for the commons that have little to no monetary value.
If you want to check out what I have, feel free…I’m still updating as I get time.
thanks again for all the contributions! Y’all are awesome :)

Yeah I like donating them to the local children’s hospital, they can be tax deductible too.

Facebook Marketplace. Sold about 20 boxes for 40 bucks. Tried for 100 bucks, but no immediate takers. I always put in the description that it's all commons.

Some of the cards I'm finding have stuck to their neighboring cards and I couldn't get them apart without damaging the card(s). I can't imagine anyone wanting to have damaged cards in their collection, especially ones from the Junk Era. Even if I were still a collector, I wouldn't want damaged cards unless they were pre-junkEra. What is your take? Do those become child's play things / kindling or is there a market for them?
For my 1991 UD cards (a lot of these had this kind of damage as the holograms stuck), I put them on my for sale/trade listings and marked them up in the comments as having damage but .... curious what y'all think.

See if they are damaged I toss them. I am a hybrid collector / investment guy if I need a label. Just because I am not a set builder I love baseball and many players but NO joy is found in lists of card #s for me. If I get a card that is stuck to another I have no problem taking that piece of cardboard and treating it like an old cereal box. Throw it out if is damaged man do it! If its not damaged to me then it should fall into the waste not want not category of life and re-homed if even for no money (donated) and that is not because I consider it a deadly sin to harm a card but because its wasteful.
At the end of the day you should try to make other people happy with them if you dont want them. It will spread something other than whats currently going around and that would be great

Never toss cards into the garbage. At worst toss them into recycling. Yeah yeah yeah some of the ones with all that foil and chrome are technically not recyclable but separating them out is a bigger pain.
There are other ways to get rid of them. You can donate them to Children's hospitals or schools maybe might have to do some research about who accepts donations of "toys and games" for kids, which collectible cards I think count as "games".
Believe it or not there are even some seasoned collectors (like myself and others here at the database) that still haven't completed many of the "junk" sets. As well as kids just entering the hobby who would see these nearly 40 year old cards. Heck technically the Junk year cards are "vintage" now in some books.

I collect: Baseball, Football, Hockey, Mostly Vintage pre1980, My Homie teams - Washington/Baltimore Teams Senators (Twins, Rangers), Expos/Nationals, Redskins, Capitals, Bullets/Wizards - HOFers - Non-sport (mostly TV shows and movies). My Trade List is very much a work in progress CaptKirk42s Trading Card Blog Curly W Cards Strive For '65 YouTube klandersen42
