And I never understood how a number on a car that isn't on a card can be tied to a card in THIS database. Please explain. I think you owe that to the community here. No one I have spoken with unsderstands how these sets are listed this way.

These are tied to the numbers intrinsically. We've been over this in private messages before.

Just so anyone reading this can truly understand what we're trying to change here, Billy is insistent that this card in the image that follows should be listed as card #41. I disagree with that and think the #41 info should go into Note2 (so we don't lose that piece of info that is important).
If you had this card in hand, went to Craven's profile page, clicked Filter, and went to select a Card Number, would "41" be your selection?

The card number for that Craven card should be 03860. However, as Tom stated before, the first 5 digits show that it is a NASCAR card vs. other motorsports. If we added all 10 digits as the card number, the different motorsports cards would line up with each other in the current CL's without the need to create a different set listing for each series for each year.
Mark Martin (NASCAR) - 2034 cards; Jimmie Johnson (NASCAR) - 1776+ cards; Jeff Gordon (NASCAR) - 1563; Ricky Rudd (NASCAR) - 828; Ozzie Smith (MLB) - 692+
It goes to 41 because it is the card from the 41 car. It was only available with the 41 car. If you are going off the filters and they are NNO, there's no way to tell which is #41 or which is #2, his Busch series car, which also exists and has a different card. Stuff in note 2 is not shown on filtered pages. And it's not NNO...it is exclusively tied to the 41 car.
Several drivers have multiple numbered cards in the same set with the only difference being the number.

Will resume trading in June, 2023. Saving money spent on postage for a trip.
VERY slow trading due to health problems. Not transferrable so safe to trade with, just moving is painful and can't always access the cards.
"Several drivers have multiple numbered cards in the same set with the only difference being the number. "
There are also a number of cases where the same car number has multiple cards and the card number is different. This would be handled with VAR, just like in many other sets, and how it is currently being handled for multiple cars with the same number. Someone who just has that card has no idea what car # it came with. Not everyone knows what car # Craven drove in 1996, and when you throw in that many drivers often had multiple car numbers in a year (Cup, Busch/Xfinity, SuperTruck, etc.) it makes it that much more difficult. The number on the back of the card makes it easy for anyone to find. You can't assume people have the diecast car on this site.
Using a Starting Lineup example for a second, we have this card as NNO. Some say it should be #555390, which may or may not be unique. You'd list it under #19, then any other player that also uses #19 would be 19b, 19c, 19d, etc.?
I know this example has jersey numbers, so it's not as extreme as the racing ones, but anyone that doesn't know car numbers would never find the associated card that way. I'm not even sure if the car number belongs in Note2 TBH -- it has nothing to do with the card. That'd be like a NNO basketball card with "Wore #3" or "Played at Pepsi Arena" in Note2.
This site focuses on the cards that come with whatever other collectibles. If there are two different figurines, car paint schemes, etc., but the card in each is identical, we don't list the card twice. If we only focus on the card, there are no car numbers anywhere, so we have to list them as NNO. I understand the original way the database was built didn't allow multiple NNOs, so using car numbers in most cases worked out fine. I don't know if that's the correct approach in 2023.

As someone who collects a certain driver, I am probably one of the few who buy die-cast just for the card. I will admit that some of these Racing Champion cards are a bit confusing, especially if you don't have the package and will agree that these cards need a overhaul. A big chunk of these cards I have in my collection is because of Billy for listing them, but there are quite a few more out there that are still not listed on the site. So I am in favor of the re-do and would be willing to help in any way I can.
Note2 information shows on the Filter page, no matter which Filter you use.
I had a link to Rob Dibble filtered cards here, but apparently the URL when using filters doesn't actually change. But the point still stands that Note2 information is viewable from a player's PID when using Filters.

I'll never quit collecting entirely, but I am downsizing. Check out my COMC store and help me thin out what I don't want so I can buy cards that I do want. See something you like? Send me a message on here, and we can knock the price down quite a bit. I'll even take a bit of a loss if it means getting you a card you really want.
Billy - I too would like to hear your explanation of how adding facts will make the checklists less accurate. I'm not following your logic. Also, I think you mis-typed this statement; "Several drivers have multiple numbered cards in the same set with the only difference being the number." If the *only* difference is a number that is not even on the card, then it's not a different card. In the situation I think you were trying to describe, the two cards would have different pictures on them, but the difference may not be easily described. I think I understand what you meant, but the way you wrote it doesn't support your position.
Ed-
There's valuable information there to anyone who is looking for a particular Racing Champions card and Note 2 is the best place for it. I would contend that the car number alone is not enough information. For the example that Dan posted, I envision a Note 2 entry to the effect of "Originally packaged with the #41 "Ricky" Chevrolet Monte Carlo, Kodiak sponsorship was not displayed."
Or, as another example, this card:
Could get Note 2 text of: "Originally packaged with #16 Family Channel Ford Thunderbird, in both the 1/64 and 1/43 scale versions."
If the Note 2 text for a particular card becomes unwieldy, Note 2 could always refer the reader to the Comments section of the card page for additional info.
Extended info about how the card was distributed can be put into Comments, then there's no character limit like Note2 has. If we need to distinguish multiple cards for one driver, Note2 should contain differences about the cards themselves, similar to what I did for 1998 Starting Lineup or 1999 Starting Lineup, where I didn't even focus on what the figurines looked like. If the car info helps collectors and it's a big issue to remove it, I'd be fine with something like "Issued with #16 Family Channel Ford", keeping it short and simple.
