I recently opened a pack of 2006 Topps Opening Day, and when I opened the pack I was surprised to see that the piece of gum was actually wrapped in plastic.  I liked that they did that in this release.  Is that something common that happened in later years when Topps decided to include gum in the packs?

I always thought is was to prevent gum stains on the cards after several years.

But who knows, even in 2006 I'm guessing people were hyper-concerned with eating (or their kids eating) unwrapped food from an unknown source.

I have seen it in random packs from early 2000s to late 2000s
