Years ago, I started over and quit collecting everything and anything. Then it was just my Huskers which I have an Excel file for as not all the cards I have are listed here. Never looked back. No regrets of selling sets/cards so cheap.
What is listed below is somewhat starting over every so often:
Now days when I get frustrated with trying to find cards at a price that I'm willing to pay. I change focus on what player/set/type I will look for. This has relieved the frustration most of the times. Always looking for the best buy and will buy anything if I find it at the right price. Like most of us I have a budget each month for cards. I really try hard to keep within it. Right now. I'm looking for Mem cards not much luck. A few weeks ago, it was some of the lower end of players. Come Black Friday everything will be on the table.
Due to the frustration part. I have used a way that has worked for me most of the time. Kind of like giving numbers for each area. The better the number the better change I will buy it. Said a lower player but a higher type may be purchased before a top player on a set I do not care for. If the price is the same or close.
Areas I look at:
Players: 820+ of them Ones I want the most are on the top and down to the lowest ones
Sets: Some I really like and others. Well, they are at the bottom
Type: Auto, Mem, SN and others Each has its place from top to bottom. Yes, SNed card would be listed lowest to highest on what they are worth
Needed to finish: If I need a card to finish a group. Say, I have 4 players of this set and I need only one more to finish having all of them. They go higher on my list. One and done feeling.
Number of cards: If I need a card or two of a player to reach a number. Say I need 2 cards of a player to reach a total of 100 cards for that player. I look at it also.
Price: Cheapest, Best buy, Someone who has giving me good deal on other cards get a little more of a look at.
When I see a card for sale I run these through my head and it is a Yes or No. At the time. Trading is different. You have a card I want, and I have card(s) you want. I'm sure we can get a deal done. No reason to look at the areas.
