I remember in the 90s conventional wisdom was that we never filled the 9th spot in the binder page, because we didn't want to bend cards while flipping pages. To this day, I still only use 8 spots.
What say you TCDB? Am I being a responsible card owner, or just wasting space?

I have never heard this. But my collection started in the 70's in shoeboxes and rubber bands, so what do I know.

I've never heard this either. Then again, I mistakenly thought most people put 18 cards in a page instead of 9, so what do I know.

For commons part of my PC I do 16! And then just 8 for better cards.

Sounds like a myth perpetrated by "big 9 pocket page" to get you to buy more 9 pocket pages but only use 89% of them.
Damage top the bottom right corner would only happen if you turn the pages of your binder from the bottom right, like a barbarian! If you carefully turn by gripping the right middle edge, you can avoid this (right edge of card 6).

Great idea, but doesn't work well for us rebels that turn the pages from the top right corner.

Someday my cards may double in value and then be worth half of what I paid for them.

I hated spending card money on pages. I packed them as full as I could. All 9, two sided, jammed with dupes if I had them.
Now, I still hate spending money on them, but my drive for organization overides my drive for frugality. It is 9 per page for me. And the pages for a set all have to be of the same kind. But I never heard of the empty nine spot technique. That would bother me on several levels.

Generally, the condition I look for is: 1800s-1929 - G and up (1+)... 1930-1951 - VGEX and up (2.5+).. 1952-1967 - EX and up (5+)... 1968-1978 - EXMT and up (6.5+)... 1979-1994 - EXMT/NM and up (7.5+)... 1995-present - NM+ and up (8.5+)

Early on I did, shoeboxes and rubber bands, 18 cards in 9 pockets. Because I was just a young collector trying to complete sets. I didn't mind too much about corners, just wanted one of each number in the set.
