Are printing plates inserts or parallels?

If they are press plates of the base cards, then they are parallels. If the press plates are for cards from an insert set, then the plates are also inserts.

It would be amazing if they could have their own category. Would sure make the filter system more useful, for those who don't collect them.

I'm going to reevaluate how I collect after the new year. It's just getting way too expensive for the new stuff. Sometimes I just want to buy a pack, not a whole box or even blaster.

Additionally, plates from other products included in specialized sets (such as "Plates and Patches") would be inserts.
Basically, only if the plates are of the base set in the product in which they were released are they parallels.

Half a parallel? They only parallel the front of the card.

Someday my cards may double in value and then be worth half of what I paid for them.

Yeah! Where are the printing plates for the card backs? What a missed opportunity!

Some racing categories have the front and back plates printed instead of just fronts. For instance, 2009 Press Pass Showcase. I have one of the back plates from this particular product and a back plate from 2008 Press Pass Legends.

Pinnacle and Topps Total have done Front and Back plates, but I'm guessing there isn't much demand since backs are usually just text.
