Occasionally the Non Sport type cards will show up on the Random Card of the Day. The types I am referring to are the cards that are about history or animals or comics etc. Just out of curiosity, where are those kinds of cards sold? I have never seen those sold retail before, and I also have never seen them in a card shop. For people who collect those, where do you get them?

All my major non-sport set have come from eBay. I have certain insert sets I'll collect from A&G and I've gotten those through trades on here or SportLots.

Some of mine re from eBay, but have seen some Hunger Games Catching Fire packs at Target several years back. I bought several at the time, and frequently saw items such as Garbage Pail Kids and automotive cards at a store called Magic Mart, which recently closed. My LCS carries an assortment of gaming and sports with the occasional box of non-sport.

Not sure about current stuff (I'm assuming it's at all the places mentioned above), but the 70s/80s/90s stuff was usually at convenience stores. I was also able to collect a full 1991 Vette Set from claw machine prizes at the Jersey shore.

Occationally you can find odd ball cards in Comic shops or at Comicons. My son used to love buying packs of Dinosour Attacks cards from a local comic shop. They had them in clearance for 25 cents a pack so I would let him buy out whatever they had when he found them. We're down to just a few cards to complete that set if anyone has any of them.
Other times you can find odd ball sets online direct from companies. Here are a couple that I've seen that look interesting.

Fright rags has had cards in the past (Chucky, Reanimator Dawn of the Dead etc) but currently doesn't have any listed.
You can also occationally find unique cards on Etsy.com. And older odd balls are always on ebay.

Most of my nonsport stuff, with the exception of Pokemon or Magic, comes from either eBay or Amazon.
I have completed some sets here by trading with other collectors, however.

i've seen people getting "space jam" at target or wal*mart, but otherwise in the Philadelphia area, the only place i've been able to find non-sports cards in person is at the Valley Forge card show. My last trip i bought some Deadpool, James Bond and a few others.
beyond that try the vendor's directly. Topps, Upper Deck or Panini. or third party vendors like steel city, etc.

As others have noted, much of the non sport ones I have obtained have been from childhood, ebay or a show here and there where a vendor has some oddball type sets. I have picked a few up at flea market/antique stores as well.
There is a guy from IL here who produces a non-sport magazine called The Wrapper. You can take a look at it here:

The few issues I have of it are made up of vendors as well as individuals buying/selling/trading non sport sets, etc.
