There's one thing that has not been mentioned yet. MOST of the cards were actually made! It's just that Panini either never received an AU'd sticker back from the person to affix to the card OR they never got the actual cards back from the person that was supposed to sign and return them. I hate redemption cards too and always have. I've been lucky to only pull 3 over my 35 years of collecting. One from Topps in 2008 came back pretty quick, one from UD in 2009 also came back pretty quick. I pulled one from a Panini box last Thanksgiving and am still waiting on anything to arrive, even after requesting replacement in May.

I'm still waiting on one redemption from Panini that is two years old.  A few months ago Panini marked my redemption as shipped and closed the ticket.  However, the tracking number has sat dormant ever since the "Shipment information sent to FedEx" stage.  I've emailed multiple times but no response.  I still need to try calling them, though.  I'm just pissed that I've waited 2 years and when there finally was a glimmer of hope of getting the card I'm still getting screwed.

Makes you wonder what they do with the unifinished cards that never get stickers attached.  Do they get destroyed, or could they somehow leak out the backdoor?

What about the cards that aren't returned by the player?  Do they end up in the secondary market?

I would think those just sit in the "Vault" until the company goes under. Score has had several "Inscription" cards that got out without AU's because the sticker was never returned. I have one of those cards as an example. It has a serial number but was stamped in Gold Foil  as UNSIGNED where the AU should have been.

Chuck, I think you know the answer as much as I do. We don't have that answer yet! They WILL end up on the secondary market at some point, but not enough time has passed yet. If the players still have the cards, they can hold on to them for as long as they want to hold them. Maybe they wait until their career is over and then release them for cash after their career is over. They would know that the cards were never released in products since they still have all of them. There is also the possibility that the cards got lost in the mail to the person or to the company. All the more reason that companies should get cards signed in-person ALWAYS!

No matter how the companies try to obtain AU's and MEM for cards, Redemptions should NOT be a part of that process. The companies can always put that late-arrival into the next product. They need to stop promising things they can't guarantee. And how do missing AU's and MEM's screw up the ratios for the actual product with or without redemptions?!
