I suspect there are some members who have not determined where their collection will go after they're gone.
I wonder if we could develop the capacity for housing and cataloging a legacy collection that would serve as a repository for any member who wishes to donate their cards to TCDb. Members might then have the ability to claim cards from the TCDb Legacy Collection for a small fee toward the collection's maintainenance.
Not sure we have the capacity either in terms of storage or personnel, but a recent thread alerted me to the fact that some members have no heirs for their collections, though they would like their cards to wind up with someone who cares.
Me? I think I want to be buried with my 1974 Dick Allen (Topps #70), but beyond that, I'm not sure where the rest will go.

This is certainly an interesting concept, one that I will follow to see how others react.

It can be interesting, but not sure how easy to do in the real life. Estates are often complicated to deal with. Maybe we should look to how the museums are working with the acquisitions of private collections.

I want my kids to have my collection when I'm gone. I have three boys. I figure they can split the collection three ways using whatever method they see fit. Maybe they'll have a draft, LOL! If they end up selling the majority of it, that's cool. I just hope they each keep a small portion of my collection to remember me by.

A couple years ago a member gave away his entire collection, over 300K cards, to the first member on this site who could travel to CA and get them. Randfordfan was the proud claimant of the collection and drove it up to the frozen Plains. Man, if wasn't in Australia when that happened...

I threaten my adult children with leaving them my collection. My wife says they'll be buried with me. I'll probably will them to one of my kids to do as they wish.

I would consider something like that, special TcDb pricing for members and proceeds going to said site with a minimal fee to make it feasible for me. Not sure how it would work as the first hoard I got I do plan on selling some to recoup the $4000 it cost to get them at some point but is the hoard was the alphabet we are just passing "B" lol. Once I had the ability to store safely and i know my other card endeavors are being succsessful why not. I'm at a cross-roads in my life and a new future I am trying to build with sportscards and memorabilia being at least 50% of that new path so who knows.

Interesting concept EddieLeon. Great job coming up with the idea!! As a reward I'm going to let you give me all the Topps 1970's cards I need! You're welcome! 😁
Seriously though, I'd be glad to help in any way I could on this project.

With my 2 boys they have already decided that my youngest gets all of my movies and Superhero cards. And my oldest gets the rest. At least thats what they keep telling me. Almost starting to put the dirt on me already.

On the personal side, my son could care less. A few years ago I tried to get him into collecting by buying soccer cards (which you can't buy now, but that's for a different forum) and he'd help me rip open baseball wax. That lasted a couple years and now everything just sits in a 3200 box (minus the ones I "borrowed" for my collection). Whenever I get stuff he just rolls his eyes now. Teenagers.... Anyhow, minus life changes as I get older, I just plan on maintaining comprehensive notes of what I have and directions for disposition.
